Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Repair, troubleshoot, install and move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Reads repair documents, manuals, blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

  • Dismantles machines, using manual, hydraulic, pneumatic, and precision tools of the trade.

  • Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, bearings, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand and power tools.

  • Constructs foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.

  • Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs and other precision tools.

  • Assembles machines, and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structure, using hand and power tools.

  • Mechanically repair cranes (overhead, mobile, rail and track).

  • Repair mobile equipment (rail, rubber tire and track driven).

  • Arc welding.

  • Track work/back-up roll bearing maintenance and repair using our maintenance management system.

Job Requirements

  • Qualified as Journeyman Level Millwright

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings

  • Ability to set up, tear down, and rebuild machinery and equipment

  • Ability to operate mobile and bridge cranes

  • Ability to operate forklift

  • Ability to use all sizes of air impact and electric wrenches, all pipe fitting tools and equipment; i.e. sockets and ratchets, hoists, both electric and manual; jackhammer; cutting torches; welding equip.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use computer programs

  • Excellent written, oral communication and organizational skills

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills

  • Basic math skills, some exposure to Geometry, Trigonometry preferred


  • 4 years' experience in Heavy Industrial Plant Maintenance

  • Specific Training on Bearing Maintenance, Inspection and assembly

  • Ivara specific training to set up tracking programs with documents, tasks and procedures

  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools (vibration analysis, thermographic imaging, ultra sound, laser alignment, etc)

POSITION SUMMARY: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead a team to disassemble, diagnose, repair or replace, reassemble and test small to large assemblies for new builds and the ship repair industry. * Clean up as you go to make sure your job site remains well-organized, free of unnecessary clutter. * Fit bearings, shafts, attach motors, and connect and align couplings and belts to precise tolerances. * Assemble and test mechanical components * Will read blueprints, diagrams, bill of materials, schematics and other technical documents to dismantle and assemble equipment. * Develop plans and sequencing for assemblies. * Has a solid, working knowledge of rigging and overhead crane operation, lifting device use and inspection and load calculations. * Use a variety of hand tools and measuring tools. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: * Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: * None required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * The physical demands for this position require continual standing, walking and using fine motor skills for the operation of tools and machinery. * Ability to lift, carry 60Lbs. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment. Occasionally requires twisting,turning, bending, climbing, and walking over uneven surfaces. * Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb. WORK ENVIRONMENT: * The work is performed inside a shop and outside in the elements * The work is performed around industrial equipment generating varying degrees of noise. * Work may involve use of chemicals, coolants, greases, solvents, petroleum,vapors and fumes. * Proper PPE will be provided as necessary.
