Position Summary:
The Millwork Co-Op Student assists the Millwork Shop departments in creating and assembling products made of wood and/or related materials. Assisting with layouts and assembly of products such as: doors, frames, trim, moldings, cabinets, fixtures, and equipment) from rough sketches, drawings, or as directed. Providing assistance from inital drawings, set-up, and custom creation all the way to finish and shipping preparation.

Functions and Responsibilities:
(requires supervision or job shadow at all times)

  • Review of blueprints or drawing of projects to be constructed

  • Assisting with gluing and fitting together assemblies/sub-assemblies using dowels, screws, clamps or other devices to form complete units.

  • May assist with finishing surfaces and joints of articles with sandpaper and scrapers.

  • Installing hardware such as hinges, catches, and drawer pulls.

  • Review and assist with the fabrication special wooden parts and components as needed.

  • Participating and actively working with others as a team, taking and accepting direction as given.

  • Learning and development regarding product quality, accuracy and craftsmanship of SSM standards.

  • Maintaining productivity, reliability and demonstrating initiative.

  • May assist in commercial assembly as well as maintaining the shop.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Maintains and adheres to safety requirements and standards of the millwork trade.

  • Familiarity with woodworking tools and equipment.

  • Interest in building projects using various joinery techniques common to the trade.

  • Familiarity with shop drawings, sketches and diagrams.

  • Ability to assist with various projects with assistance and supervision.

  • Ability to work and interact well with SSM staff and vendors.

  • Ability follow verbal and/or written instructions.

  • May include the ability to perform mathematical operations.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Current enrollment in Carpentry/Cabinetry program; Vocational HS preferred

  • 2-3 Years of program enrollment

  • Experience in a woodworking, mill or cabinet program using hand and power woodworking machinery and tools in the layout and assembly of products made from wood and related materials.

We are currently seeking a Full Time Purchasing Coordinator to join our team! Position Summary: The Purchaser provides support to the Production Team regarding the purchase of materials, sourcing services and stock listing to facilitate production needs. Establishing relationships with customers, vendors and contractors while providing superior customer service throughout the process. Maintains all phases of the process, coordinates with the production team, the customer and all other internal departments to ensure that the materials or supplies required are obtained, on-time and as budgeted. Note: This position requires prior Purchasing and prior Millwork experience. Responsibilities and Tasks * Receives requests and generates PO's from requisitions and updates as needed. * Researches the cost and availability of materials and services, ensuring best price and adequate availability of stock to meet the production as well as additional needs if applicable. * Performs cost benefit analysis in all aspects of purchasing materials and services. * Ensures material and other costs are consistent with estimated project costs and budget. * Coordinates material receipt dates to ensure materials are in stock when needed for production. * Communicates and coordinates requisition status and receipt dates with PM's and Shop Foreman. * Ensures that materials, goods and services are reviewed, ordered and received on time and on budget. * Maintains material cost and source information. * Continuously sources new vendors, establishing relationships to ensure ongoing communication, resources and comparisons. * Facilitates efficient problem resolutions as needed. * Ensures timely completion of all PO's * Performs audits to ensure materials, products and services are received as ordered and on time. * Other duties and tasks as assigned. Skills Required: * Knowledge of architectural woodworking materials methods, standards and of millwork production * Represents the company with professionalism and integrity at all times. * Ability to prioritize and multi-task with minimal supervision * Superior time management, organizational and communication skills * Ability to work with strict deadlines and in a fast-paced environment * Exceptional attention to detail and strong work ethic * Knowledge of AutoCAD preferred Experience/ Education *Millwork and Purchasing experience is required * High school Diploma or equivalent. * Minimum of 3-5 years of Purchasing experience. * 5+ years of Millwork or related industry experience. * Installation, Shop floor, Engineering, fabricating and related internal purchasing experience preferred.
