Position Overview
The Mill Technician will work in the Process Technology and Engineering Department and report directly to the Lead Metallurgical Engineer. The person filling this position will follow set procedures and provide results which will be used to maintain and improve mill operational performance. This is normally a day shift position, but it will periodically require short notice flexibility for working other shifts and overtime. The Mill Technician interfaces, collaborates, and coordinates with other members of the Process Development Group, Mill Operations, and also other departments such as Mining, Maintenance, Analytical, Warehouse & Shipping, and training.
Position Responsibilities
Perform sampling of materials throughout the mill & flotation circuit
Perform lab testing including froth flotation
Use mechanical equipment such as filters, sieves, sieve shakers, crushers, grinders, various testing equipment, and basic electrical instrumentation
Use pan and analytical balances
Maintain accurate and legible records
Maintain and order lab supplies for mill laboratory operations
Identify any unsafe activities or unsafe conditions that could result in harm to personnel, damage to property, or impacts to the environment
Accept personal responsibility for safe work practices
Communicate test results, verbally and in writing, to other staff
Keep work areas clean and perform daily pre-work inspections
Maintain safe work practices
Completes any other tasks as needed or as directed by management
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1-year work experience in a Chemical, Mining, Petroleum, or heavy industrial setting preferred
Experience making observations and recording results in an industrial environment preferred
MSHA related job site experience preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Preferred Qualifications
High school or college level chemistry
AA or bachelor's degree in related field
Mechanical aptitude
Experience in mineral processing lab and plant flotation
Experience with analytical equipment (XRF) and sample preparation
SPECIALIZED SKILLS
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Ability to complete a task with minimal supervision
Attention to detail and ability to learn new duties
Ability to work in teams with strong collaboration skills
Ability to work with people at all levels within the organization
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proven record of safety
Must thrive in a high stress start-up environment
Must be able to meet critical deadlines

WORKING CONDITIONS
Our facility sits at an elevation of 4700 feet and employees may subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor manufacturing plant setting, which may include expose to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the responsibilities of the Mill Technician, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
