Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska in one of the largest gold producing areas of the state. It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world.

Job Description

Supervise and instruct a Mill Operations crew to perform in a cost effective, safe, productive manner while protecting the environment and enhancing morale of others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations at the mill and related support systems.

  • Work with operators in all facets of process training, understanding, safety, and general work practices.

  • Prepare and conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions as needed.

  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.

  • Monitor and maintain all production and personnel records (i.e. daily production and inventory logs, time cards, evaluations, etc.).

  • Generate work orders for repair or modification of operations equipment. In emergencies, off shifts, or as directed, perform or supervise completion of minor repairs.

  • Communicate with other department supervisors that support mill activities (i.e. maintenance, warehousing, crusher, mine etc.).

  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure a safe and cost efficient operation.

  • Develop personnel by training and example.

  • Ability to react quickly and efficiently in emergency shutdowns and power failures.

  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.

  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.

  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.

  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.

  • Maintain accurate records and files.

  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying out corrective actions as needed.

  • Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.

  • Perform other related functions as assigned by Mill General Foreman.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.

  • Minimum of two years previous mill operations crew experience required.

Skills

  • Must be production orientated.

  • General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.

  • Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.

  • Ability to work independently and also as member of the management team.

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.

  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the physical demands sheets.

Duties & Responsibilities: * Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions and oil, temperature, gas regulating components, adjust/test/rebuild engines etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements * Oversee (and personally comply with) the local implementation of NELLC maintenance and safety standard operating procedures in this maintenance facility, ensuring that local maintenance staff follow them, and comply with all locally applicable public authority legislation, regulation and standards * Oversee the local use of NELLC's EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) ERP application, and maintenance facility staff to record and to track local maintenance work orders and local parts inventory.
