Responsibilities

  • Determines, processes, and follows up on a wide variety of active, reserve, retired, and/or annuitant pay entitlement actions which require carrying out numerous different and unrelated procedures.

  • Assist in performing auditing work on various pay actions ensuring the pay files are correctly updated and in balance.

  • Receives and processes indebtedness actions against military members.

  • Provides miscellaneous technical tasks in support of military pay actions. May be required

  • Provides miscellaneous technical tasks in support of military pay actions.

  • Provides customer service in person or by telephone and completes correspondence related to military pay.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

GS-05: Applicants must possess two (2) years of general experience, at the GS-04 grade level or equivalent under under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the knowledge of a body of standardized military pay rules, regulations, laws, allowances, and procedures, the data systems(s) used to support military pay action; and federal debt collection rules and regulations.

OR
4 years above high school education

OR

combination of education and general experience

GS-06: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-05) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience which includes knowledge that has equipped me with the particular knowledge of a body of standardized military pay rules, regulations, laws, procedures, or operations requiring considerable training and experience to perform the full range of clerical assignment and resolve recurring problems.

OR

graduate level education directly related to the work of the position

OR

combination of education and specialized experience

GS-07: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-06) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience which includes knowledge of a large body of rules, regulations, laws, and procedures for one or more military pay specializations' the data system(s) used to support military pay actions; and federal debt collections rules and regulations.

GS-08: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-07) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience which includes knowledge of an extensive body of rules, regulations, laws, allowances, and procedures pertaining to one or more military pay, travel pay, disbursing operations; internal control functions.

GS-09: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-08) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience which includes knowledge of and skill in all aspects of the military pay system(s) in order to make interpretation of applicable directives in determining entitlements of members and to resolved complex discrepancies and adjudicate questionable claims.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of a body of standardized military pay rules, regulations, law, allowances, and procedures; the data system(s) used to support military pay action; and federal debt collection rules and regulations.

  • Skill in performing arithmetic computations to compute military pay.

  • Ability to interpret/apply regulations and procedures related to military pay.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • Ability to operate a calculator.

  • Ability to use a keyboard, a qualified typist is not required.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
