The Military-Affiliated Admissions Counselor assists in the recruitment of active duty servicepersons, veterans, and military dependents to Saint Martin's University. The counselor recruits and reviews military-affiliated student applications; counsels students and others regarding the admissions process; manages recruitment territories; travels ten to twelve weeks per year; coordinates military-affiliated recruitment efforts both in-person and virtually with the other admissions team members; evaluates transfer credits; and assists the Associate Director/Dean with the development of the annual military-affiliated recruitment plan, and assessment of recruitment activities. Directs and coordinates various on and off campus programs. Assists in training new employees and work-study students. The position is strongly focused on meeting the University's undergraduate, military-affiliated recruitment goals and providing excellent follow-through, customer service, and communicating with students about the educational opportunities available at Saint Martin's University.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Responsible for coordinating admissions activities which are designed to recruit military-affiliated students to the university; evaluate transfer credits; meet individual undergraduate recruitment goals and contribute, with other transfer and first-year admissions counselors, towards meeting the university's overall undergraduate recruitment goals. Travel to designated territories and community colleges and develop an inquiry pool of prospective student applicants from which the university can attract its undergraduate students.

  • Present the University's academic programs, resources, admission requirements and course equivalencies, and financial aid offerings to prospective students. Maintain proactive communication with prospective students, families, community college counselors, and other community members.

  • Conduct preliminary review of military-affiliated student applications for admission to Saint Martin's University. Collaborate with staff and faculty to write students' Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) educational letters.

  • Assist the Director/Dean in developing and implementing admissions activities directed at increasing undergraduate student enrollment and analysis of search, conversion and yield information as it relates to the effectiveness of military-affiliated student recruitment activities.

  • Assist the Director/Dean in developing and utilizing publication materials, marketing activities, and advertising media for the advancement of the college and its recruitment efforts; coordinate efforts with the Office of Marketing and Communications.

  • Attend Veteran Center events and activities to build positive relationships with military-affiliated students.

  • Closely collaborate with Saint Martin's Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success Center staff and students to ensure students' positive transition into the university. Attend Fall and Spring New Student Orientation programming and Welcome Weekend programming.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Must be capable of working in a stressful, deadline-specific work environment.

REQUIREMENTS AND/OR CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • Relevant experience with public speaking, writing, and content/data analysis

  • Working knowledge of computer and online software applications

  • Experience with event planning specifically related to recruitment strategies

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and to travel is required; therefore, a current valid driver's license, auto insurance and ownership of a vehicle is required (mileage reimbursed for university activities)

Desired

  • Social media skills, including experience with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

  • Experience working in higher education including undergraduate students into a four-year university;

  • Military Veteran and/or experience with working with U.S. Military Veterans

  • Knowledge of Washington Community College systems and transfer degrees

  • Bilingual

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment. Physical demands include:

  • Ability to be mobile campus wide for appropriate business needs

  • Moves heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet)

  • Operates a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements

  • Reading, writing, speaking, hearing, standing, bending, sitting

  • Learning and comprehending

  • Requires visual concentration on detail

  • Manual dexterity and precision required for keyboarding

  • Must be able to sit for long periods at a time at a computer

  • Must be able to concentrate on details and process complex information while experiencing frequent interruptions

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels under stressful conditions

  • This position requires extensive in and out-of-state travel (a minimum six to eight weeks per year) including high school and/or community college visits, college nights and weekend college fairs

  • Must possess a standard driver's license and be prepared to operate a motor vehicle required.
