General Description:

The Migrant School Readiness Specialist will implement and assist in the program design of

early learning outreach, recruitment and identification, social services, and referral. This position

will deliver direct services to families with children from birth to six years old, to support

kindergarten readiness and ensure that families are knowledgeable about available early

childhood services, and provide home-based preschool/kindergarten readiness services to

migrant students not attending a school-based or center-based program. The School Readiness

Specialist will also provide family preschool literacy training for migrant families and work

collaboratively with the region recruiter.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

1.High School Diploma or GED

2.Bilingual required, ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in English and Spanish

3.Valid driver's license and vehicle available for use on the job

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

1.Ability to to work with diverse people, be patient and willing to help parents, and/or

students with questions, and provide resources, etc.

2.Ability to develop a liaison role between the home, schools and community

3.Ability to drive to multiple sites

4.Ability to have a flexible schedule, and work evening hours and/or on the weekends, as

needed.

5.Ability to complete accurate and timely reports

Essential functions: Include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks.

Other Duties may be assigned. The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic

of the type and level of work assigned for this position.

A. Provide home-based preschool services to Migrant preschool-age (0-5) children.

B. Provide literacy and kindergarten readiness activities to preschoolers and their parents at

home during the year, as well as the summer and intersession periods.

C. Communicate with parents via newsletter, email, phone and text messaging service.

Correspond with district staff and stakeholders regularly via email.

D. Provide information to support children and families in preparing for kindergarten,

accessing quality childcare and strengthening positive parenting, early literacy language

acquisition, early brain development, and social/emotional development through a

variety of venues.

E. Provide assistance as a liaison between the home and school.

F. Share with migrant parents and students all school services/programs available to them.

G. Recruit out-of-school students into educational programs.

H. Identify and recruit all eligible migrant children residing in the school district from 0

through 21 years of age, as needed.

I. Complete, distribute and maintain a Certificate of Eligibility according to state/federal

guidelines for each eligible migrant family.

J. Refer migrant families to appropriate health, social or legal services in order to meet the

needs of the migrant student's successful participation in school.

K. Manage and track student data, prepares and submits documentation as requested by

the supervisor. Submits written monthly work activities and reports.

L. Build and maintain positive effective working relationships with coworkers, school district

staff, students and parents.

M. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in regular professional

development activities.

N. Implement ongoing process of observation, reflection and planning with the intention of

improving professional practices, program service-delivery quality, and child outcomes.

O. Performs other duties as assigned
