Position: Migrant Paraprofessional II/Intervention Assistant; 2 positions available, initial placement at Mattawa Elementary, Saddle Mt. Elementary

Classification: Representation available by Public School Employee Union; Classified hourly employee;

FLSA Non-Exempt

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Director of Multilingual & Multicultural Services

Basic Function: Assignment is 7.25/hrs per day, school year calendar 180 work days plus 10 paid holidays. Under the general supervision of certified staff, the school principal and the Director of Multilingual & Multicultural Services or designee, identify eligible students and place migrant qualifying students in content area intervention groups. Collaborate with and receive direction from certified staff to implement a program for each student/small group; provide tutoring/instructional support for students based upon selected data in subject areas of greater need; provide assistant in the overall educational success within the total school environment. Implement instructional plans by choosing appropriate activities, monitor and report student progress. Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress and needs. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. Experience and/or educational training in education and development or related field, familiar with the needs of Migrant students preferred. Possess computer and application skills and ability to become proficient in necessary software applications. May provide program of assistance through a distance learning/virtual model. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with staff, students and families with limited guidance. May include other duties. Bilingual Spanish required.

Typical Work Functions: This is a representation of typical work functions and is not considered to be an exhaustive list.

  • Provide instruction support to qualifying Migrant students in small groups in mathematics, reading, English/Language Arts (ELA) for 4-6 week periods.

  • Keep accurate records on each student's progress as necessary to provide data and completes reports for certified staff, county and district level administrators on the progress of students and the program.

  • Make phone calls, meet and work with parents and guardians in a positive and helpful manner to support students overall educational program, student progress and needs

  • Use initiative and independent judgement to perform daily assignment with minimal supervision

  • Organize and plan use of time effectively.

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English and Spanish.

  • Proctor, score and record pre- and post-assessments

  • Collaborate with Migrant staff and classroom teachers to identify students for small group interventions.

  • Communicate and maintain effective relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents, other employees, and the general public.

  • Coordinate student schedules in order to provide services.

  • Collaborate and implement instructional plans by choosing appropriate activities, monitor and report student progress.

  • Apply computer and application skills necessary for software applications.

  • May provide program of assistance through a distance learning/virtual model.

  • May Provide Spanish instruction and translation.

  • May provide attention to the needs of disabled or handicapped students.

  • Assist individuals to understand overall educational system.

  • Assist teaching staff in the development of teaching aids and materials.

  • Supervise students in areas of the school setting.

  • Assist in organizing and monitoring recreational activities.

  • Accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.

  • Perform basic clerical tasks for teachers (enter data using various software, catalog, sort, file, assemble, reproduce and distribute classroom materials, check out equipment)

  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in any Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

  • Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential

  • Provide student supervision in all educational settings.

  • Recognize and provide students with social and emotional needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required. Experience and/or educational training in education and development or related field preferred. Two years of college level coursework, AA Degree, or pass a basic skills test required. Ability and willingness to participate and complete a State required Fundamental Course of Study. Required to participate and complete General Para Educator certificate. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Successfully complete a written Spanish/English translation test if required. Experience with children or students in an educational setting and / or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences preferred. Possess basic clerical skills and a familiarity with first aid procedures. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and 50 lbs occasionally with assistance. Proficient and confident in use of computers and electronic devices and web-based applications including Google suite. Able and expected to attend work as scheduled. Able to model appropriate professional behavior. Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and district records required. Must pass a Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint clearance.
