Midwifery Co-Director

Purpose

The Midwifery Co-Directors are responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Midwifery Program and to ensure that the care provided by their providers and care teams meets Neighborcare Health's goals for quality, productivity, and patient satisfaction in the provision of antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, well-person gynecological, and reproductive care in both community health ambulatory and inpatient practice sites. They are responsible for provider hiring, orientation and training, performance management, and completion of annual individual learning conversations. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Midwifery Co-Directors work in partnership and joint accountability with other lead team members to achieve Neighborcare Health's goals and follow its mission and guiding principles.

The Midwifery Co-Directors play a key role in setting the strategic agenda for the Midwifery Program and work with departmental leadership within Neighborcare Health and Swedish/Providence to implement this vision. The Co-Directors work in a matrix organization reporting directly to the Chief Health Officer and the OB Operations Manager of Neighborcare Health. Furthermore, they work closely with the Directors of the Kaiser OB/GYN Group as well as the Swedish/Providence Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Nursing Directors of Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, and Postpartum.

This role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to support and guide a large group of midwives in their clinical practice. Additionally, these positions require an ability to lead the midwifery team in a healthy interdisciplinary collaboration with other members of the perinatal health care team.

In this position you will:

1 Co-Director will focus particularly on outpatient Neighborcare Health issues and responsibilities, particularly serving as the lead for issues of organizational leadership, quality, and compliance.

• Attend required Neighborcare meetings related to site medical director program leadership, particularly serving as point person for issues surrounding quality of care and safety.

• Oversight of data analysis and statistics as well as yearly benchmarking for OB operations.

• Primary back up for OB clinical operations with regards to reviewing timesheets and review of staffing schedules.

• As needed back up for fellow Co-Director responsibilities when that person is unavailable.

1 Co-Director will focus particularly on inpatient Swedish/Providence and Kaiser OB issues and responsibilities

• Attend required inpatient organization meetings related to OB operations, quality, safety, and midwifery practice.

• Communicate with Swedish and Kaiser OB/GYN leadership.

• Oversight of data analysis and statistics, particularly as relates to inpatient care.

• As needed back up for fellow Co-Director responsibilities when that person is unavailable.

Each of the Co-Directors will have the following Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Care

• Provides evidenced-based antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and well person gynecological care, including contraceptive management within the CNM Scope of Practice as delineated in the Neighborcare Midwifery Service Practice Guidelines.

Leadership

• Oversees and supports the Midwifery Program, which is effective and responsive to the needs of people from adolescence through senior adulthood (13-64 years of age).

• Promotes successful interdisciplinary collaboration across various teams.

• Facilitates the development of protocols for the Midwifery Program and contributes to department protocols and policies regarding patient care.

• Participates and implements Quality, Equity and Safety initiatives across the department and facilitates communication on practice improvements.

• Represents midwifery within the hospital setting and promotes evidence-based practice by remaining current with local, regional, and national trends in perinatal and reproductive care.

• Contributes to the departmental efforts of creating a culture of safety by promoting an equitable, just, and diverse work environment where individuals are encouraged to thrive.

• Leads and oversees communication and planning with educational institutions for the clinical education of nurse midwives.

• Is committed to teaching and mentoring future nurse midwives.

• Champions the needs of marginalized communities and works toward increasing health equity and access to reproductive health care.

• Actively works towards addressing institutional racism in an effort to reduce healthcare disparities.

• Facilitates midwifery participation in departmental research projects and programs.

Management

• Supervision of core and per diem midwifery team members is shared equally between the Co-Directors.

• Interviews, hires, and evaluates the performance of staff and per diem CNMs.

• Provides ongoing clinical and professional feedback to midwifery staff for successful practice.

• Responsible for the comprehensive onboarding and orientation of new midwifery staff.

• In collaboration with OB clinical operation manager, manages staffing of midwives in ambulatory clinic settings as well as inpatient units 24 hours per day.

• Evaluates staffing distribution to meet the needs of patient census and acuity.

• In collaboration with OB Clinical Operation manager, oversees the creation of staff schedules and vacation requested time approvals ensuring a transparent and equitable distribution of requested time.

• Facilitates the professional growth and career development of the staff midwives and fosters an environment that supports ongoing excellence in their clinical practice.

• Implements progressive disciplinary action according to Human Resources policy.

Administrative

• Responsible for the negotiation of midwifery compensation within Neighborcare.

• Meets with OB leadership every two years to review and revise the Midwifery Practice Guidelines so they are reflective of current midwifery practice.

• Plans and facilitates twice-monthly Midwifery Staff Meetings.

• In collaboration with OB Operations Manager, identifies and manages adequate resources including personnel, supplies, and capital equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Masters or doctoral degree required.

• Graduation from an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery and Education (ACME) required.

• Successful completion of the certifying examination by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) required.

• Enrollment in the Certification Maintenance Program by the AMCB required.

• Licensure in Washington State as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum three years' experience as a Nurse Midwife.

• Strong preference for experience as both a provider in direct patient care and in supervising people or teams

• Strong preference for leadership experience in interdisciplinary settings, including skills in negotiation and team building

• Bilingual skills

Compensation

The wage range for this position is a minimum $52.24/hour up to $75.24/hour maximum
