Primary Position Purpose:

As a Midlevel SQL Engineer at U.S. Xpress, you'll be integral in developing, optimizing, and overseeing our operational SQL databases and server-based solutions. Your role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, designing and implementing sophisticated database structures, and ensuring the highest levels of data integrity and security.

Position Functions:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance SQL databases.

• Crafting complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and complex SQL statements to meet application development and data analysis requirements.

• Implementing robust data security and protection measures in compliance with privacy regulations.

• Database performance optimization through effective indexing, query tuning, and server settings adjustment.

• Leading and executing data migration and integration projects with precision and minimal operational impact.

• Working collaboratively with development teams to seamlessly integrate SQL databases with business applications.

• Proactively identifying and resolving database issues; ensuring system reliability and efficiency.

• Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce.

• Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice.

• Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectation

• Mentoring junior SQL developers, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in database development and management practices

What We're Looking For:

Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.

• Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in operational SQL development or a similar role.

• Demonstrated proficiency with SQL Server or other major database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).

• Solid background in database design, development, and operational management.

• Expertise in data migration, transformation, and scripting.

• Experience with server-side frameworks and environments is essential.

• Proven ability to optimize database performance and ensure data integrity.

• Agile development environment experience is highly valued.

• Experience in Mongo or other NoSQL databases is preferred but not required, offering additional avenues for innovation and system enhancement.

• Experience in Kafka or other pub/sub messaging technology is preferred but not required, offering additional avenues for innovation and system enhancement.

Skills & Abilities

• High level knowledge of SQL and fundamental database principles.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Advanced skills in database performance tuning and optimization.

• Proficiency in data visualization tools and reporting software.

• Strong understanding of data security practices and encryption techniques.

• Effective teamwork and communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven project management capabilities, with a knack for leading projects to successful completion within set deadlines.

• Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is a plus.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile and dynamic environment with both virtual and face-to-face interactions.

• Strong collaborative mindset, good judgment with great interpersonal skills required to help solve complex business problems.
