MiddView Trips Logistics Crew members pitch in wherever needed in the crucial final weeks before, during and immediately after the program. This may involve (but is not limited to) general Outdoor Orientation related office work, organizing, preparing and distributing trip equipment, dividing and dispensing group food, running errands to Burlington, field checking trip routes, providing feedback and input on the trip planning process, and other tasks as assigned.

This position is an excellent introduction to the inner workings of a large outdoor program.

Qualifications:
Current Middlebury student. Interest in and enthusiasm for the Outdoor Orientation program.

Excellent attention to detail. Some experience with outdoor equipment and activities. Other details:

General workweek from the 8/12 start date to trip return (9/8) is 37.5 hours / week. During the first week of classes, there may be up to 6 additional hours. In the days and immediately prior to and during training and Orientation, irregular and perhaps longer hours may be necessary.

Must be willing to work weekends during leader training and the program itself. This position has been approved for a Job Extension/Early Arrival.

VIEW JOBS 2/23/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-23T00:00 Responsibilities: MiddView Trips Interns serve as critical members of the College's orientation team. They help to design and coordinate all aspects of the orientation trips; a three day, two-night off-campus adventure that explores Vermont's cultural, community or outdoor landscapes. There are three positions available. Each intern will work on one kind of trip topic: Wilderness trips, Vermont Explorations trips, or Community Engagement trips. All three interns should expect a lot of collaboration between trip types. Community Engagement Intern tasks include but are not limited to: - Communicate directly with over 50 community partners to develop mutually beneficial itineraries for 10 trips that engage with local non-profits and agencies that support the communities surrounding campus. - Assist in developing a leader training for Community Engagement leaders that provides leaders with the opportunity to evaluate and deepen their awareness of personal values, learn about the local community, and develop soft skills necessary to engage in community work. - Create materials that will support Community Engagement leaders as they implement their trips including resource packets, recipes for meals on a budget, and the leader handbook - Establish lodging, transportation and food that is appropriate for each individual trip. Vermont Explorations Intern task include but are not limited to: - Communicate directly with over 30 community partners to develop mutually beneficial itineraries for 15-18 trips focused on exploring the Vermont cultural landscaping. - Develop the Vermont Explorations portion of leader training - Establish lodging, transportation and food that is appropriate for each individual Vermont Explorations trip Outdoor Explorations Intern tasks include but are not limited to: - Review and edit past Middview itineraries (40 trips) and leader overnights (10 trips) ensuring each trip has the appropriate gear, transportation and other resources - Orchestrate the gear issue and de-issue process for ~300 participants - Organize the food for the wilderness trips; planning the menu, implementing the food packout and cataloging participant dietary needs. - Assist with Leader Training and all other aspects of planning the Middview Wilderness Trips. For all interns, tasks include communicating regularly with incoming students by updating the website and social media platforms; organizing trips logistics; participating in leader selection; managing database to organize over 600 participant registrations, responding and solving unexpected problems; other duties as assigned. Experience Desired: First years, sophomores and juniors, and all February students are encouraged to apply. It is helpful if interns have lead a MiddView trip in the past, but certainly not a requirement.
