Description: Core academic teachers in District 21 middle schools work with others on teams.
These teams, which also include special education and bilingual/ESL teachers as full team members, are responsible for educating a set group of students within the core academic areas of reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social science according to the District 21 concept-based curriculum, the Illinois Learning Standards, and the Illinois Standards for English Language Proficiency. Within our middle schools block schedules, core teams have the ability to create their own schedules and student groupings, and teams meet daily as teachers to accomplish their academic goals for students.
Must possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator's License and be endorsed to teach Social Science, Language Arts, Math and/or General Science in a middle school setting.
Working Conditions: Middle school teachers work as members of a team, and they are expected to meet regularly with teammates, administrators, and other instructional support team members in order to ensure that each student is learning.
Meetings typically occur during the school day when teachers have two hours of plan time. Additional meetings are held outside the school day as determined by the collective bargaining agreement and the school's Building Council. Participation in extra duty activities and as a lunch or before and after-school supervisor is determined by the school administration.
