JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: K-12 Teacher
Reports to: Building Principal
Employment Status: Beachwood Federation of Teachers (BFT) Contract

Bachelor's Degree in Education
Current Ohio Department of Education Licensure
Highly Qualified Teacher designation in the assigned subject area
Meet all health requirements mandated by law
Satisfactory completion of the BCII and FBI background check
Possession of a valid motor vehicle license
III. Job Responsibilities & Duties
Instructional Planning:
Design instructional lessons & goals using appropriate resources and knowledge of students' skills, knowledge, language proficiency, learning styles, and special needs to effectively present learning objectives and achieve desired outcomes
Create lessons & unit structures that support the instructional outcomes, engage students in meaningful learning and are varied and appropriate to the students
Maintain current, accurate daily/weekly lesson plans that align with state standards and the District's adopted courses of student/curriculum goals; ensure plans are available for substitute teachers when necessary
Assist with the preparation of IEP, 504 and/or other interventions for assigned students meeting eligibility requirements
Develop appropriate formative and summative assessments to provide accurate and meaningful data to inform instruction and to adjust curriculum / instructional methods as necessary to enhance student learning
Effectively collaborate with colleagues to incorporate research-based, exemplary instructional practices in the classroom
Instruction and Assessment:
Communicate clear and accurate directions, procedures and explanation of the purpose of the lesson or unit (verbal and written)
Engage students in learning through the use of effective questioning and discussion techniques and providing appropriate feedback; ensure participation of all students in classroom discussion
Create activities and group assignments appropriate to students cognitive abilities and the instructional purpose of the lesson; ensure the structure and pace is appropriate for all students
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in adjustments to lessons, student questions and strategies to approach
Analyze student assessment data to examine the effectiveness of the curriculum in addressing the learning needs of all students and implement appropriate changes
Create an environment of respect and rapport by modeling appropriate behavior and managing student behavior accordingly; implement disciplinary consequences when warranted
Establish a culture of high expectations for student learning, achievement and pride in their work & accomplishments
Create routines and transitions to minimize loss of instructional time and keep students focused and on track
Manage physical classroom space, instructional materials and classroom procedures for safety and efficiency
Professionalism:
Accurately reflect on individual effectiveness of teaching style and outcome of instruction programs and take appropriate action for continuous improvement
Ensure accuracy of all student records including grades, assignments, progress, individual education plans, and non-instructional activities
Provide frequent communication to families about instructional programming, student progress, and other relevant information, respecting and responding sensitively to cultural norms
Develop relationships of mutual support and cooperation with colleagues, actively participating in professional learning communities and making a substantial contribution to school and district projects/activities
Seek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skills and actively assist other educators through professional collaboration and involvement on committees and teams
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend training, meetings, and in-services as required
Participate in IEP meetings as necessary
Serve as a cooperating teacher/mentor for student teachers
Plan/attend educational field trips
Assist in the development of the course of study, selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materials
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or Building Principal
IV. Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as well as District policies related to curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of academic areas and teaching methodology
Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age-appropriate tasks
Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team, or independently with limited supervision
Ability to problem solve, organize effectively and react productively to interruptions and changing conditions
Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and make sound professional decisions
Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts
V. Personal Conduct Requirements
The employee shall exercise honesty and integrity in his/her relationships with the Board of Education and the administration
The employee shall promote a positive image of the District through exemplary personal conduct
The employee shall report misconduct or violations of policy or procedure following established Board policy
The employee shall actively support the efforts of the Board of Education and the Superintendent in the pursuit of District goals and interests
The employee shall not disrupt District operations or undermine the positions of the Board of Education and administration
The employee shall demonstrate the ability to interact in a positive manner with staff, students and the public and promote a positive image of the district through exemplary personal conduct including but not limited to:
The ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with tact, diplomacy, and excellent grammar
The demonstration of effective listening skills
Remaining free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Beachwood City School District
