POSITION: Middle School Science Teacher: Grades 6,7,8
LOCATION: Corte Madera School
FTE: 1.0 FTE (full time)
WORK YEAR: 186 days per the 2024 - 2025 PVSD academic calendar
CREDENTIAL: A valid California multiple subject credential with the appropriate Science authorization (biological & physical science), OR a Science single subject (biological & physical science) credential is required for this position.
SALARY: The 2023-2024 Salary Schedule range is $82,130 to $137,250 depending on education and experience. Final salary for 2024-2025 will be subject to negotiations settlement.

Overview: The Portola Valley School District is seeking a dynamic, innovative, 6th-8th grade science teacher to join the Corte Madera School community for the 2024 - 2025 school year. The District is especially interested in educators who are invigorated by a growing school environment and are comfortable with innovation. The ideal applicant must be a skilled organizer and collaborator. In addition, they should be enthusiastic about interacting with engaged families, and take an active role in shaping the school's growth, policies and educational practices. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Common Core, California Content Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, a diversity of assessments to inform differentiated instruction, and will possess a strong ability to design and implement rich, engaging, and relevant teaching units.
Training and Experience
Master's Degree or Higher, and/or National Board Certification preferred.
Knowledge of different 6th
Knowledge of and experience in implementing an array of best practices related to science instruction.
Experience teaching English Language Learners with a strong understanding of ELD strategies and best teaching practices.
Knowledge of the Common Core and California State Content Standards and NGSS.
Ability to design and/or use a variety of assessment tools and techniques to guide instruction.
Interest in working in a school community with a high degree of parent/family participation.
Commitment and ability to attend committee meetings, lead school-wide initiatives, utilize parents as volunteers in the classroom.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Indoor classroom and outdoor playground environment; subject to frequent interruptions;
Compute, STEAM and science lab exposure;
Daily routine ability to exchange information via hearing and speaking;
Skills, knowledge, mental ability, and manual dexterity to carry out the posted duties and responsibilities of the job, interpret and implement school policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position;
Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time to monitor student progress;
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels;
Ability to speak in audible tones so that others, including young children, may understand clearly;
Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by others;
Short term and long-term memory ability required for all tasks;
Situations may require lifting of up to 25 lbs. (light objects as part of classroom environment)
Seeing to perform assigned duties with or without vision aids; sitting or standing for extended periods of time;
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment as needed, and middle school level science equipment during class time as necessary to perform the duties of the position;
Ability to bend, reach walk, knee, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
May be required to attend meetings or school events outside regular school hours.
Licenses and other requirements
CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) process completed prior to the first day of school.
Valid CA Teaching Credentials as noted above.
If required to operate a vehicle
Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District's insurance carrier
