The Ayer Shirley Regional School District is seeking a dynamic Middle School Science Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The primary responsibilities of the Science Educator will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Responsible for implementing high-quality instructional practices that meet the needs of all students
Responsible for all general duties as indicated by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and directives of the Superintendent of Schools or her/his designee
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of subject matter, pedagogy, and the developmental levels of students to support the learning of all students
Ability to develop well-structured, standards-based units and lessons, both individually and collaboratively, that contain challenging and measurable objectives, appropriate student engagement strategies, pacing, sequence, resources, groupings, questions, and technologies
Ability to develop, administer, organize, and analyze results from a variety of assessments to help measure student progress toward intended learning goals, and use these results to make adjustments to practice to meet the needs of all students
Uses instructional practices that reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work; engage all students; and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness
Creates and maintains a safe, collaborative, inclusive, and equitable learning environment with clear and high expectations that motivate students to take academic risks, challenge themselves, and claim ownership of their learning
Engages families to be active participants in the classroom community through two-way, culturally proficient communication and proactive and ongoing collaborative efforts
Demonstrates the capacity to reflect on and improve the educator's own practice, using informal means as well as meetings with teams and workgroups to gather information, analyze data, examine issues, set meaningful goals, and develop new approaches in order to improve teaching and learning
Attends and actively participates in professional development and collaborative time, including faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, team meetings, and other professional learning opportunities
Demonstrates sound judgment reflecting integrity, honesty, fairness, and trustworthiness and protects student confidentiality appropriately
Consistently fulfills professional responsibilities such as being consistently timely and reliable with paperwork, duties, and assignments; demonstrating regular attendance; and maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Bachelor's or higher earned an academic degree in the subject area sought
Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in Massachusetts for General Science, 5-8
SEI Endorsement on DESE License Required
Knowledge of MA Curriculum Framework for Science and effective, standards-based instructional practices that promote deep understanding of science
Familiarity with the principles of Universal Design for Learning preferred
Previous experience with working as a member of an interdisciplinary team and developing interdisciplinary units of instruction preferred
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
