Middle School Religion Teacher Job Description

Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, Brooklyn, NY

BJP is a middle school that serves low-income students from the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. It was founded in 2003 in the model of the Nativity school tradition. We offer single-gender classes for boys and girls with a demanding and dynamic curriculum. The students are required to stay for an extended day and participate in our summer camp at Fairfield University.

BJP seeks a driven and passionate teacher to join our mission for the 2018-19 school year, starting as soon as possible. This person must not only be a classroom leader but also serve as a role model for our students as we mold them in the Jesuit tradition of becoming 'men and women for others'. Course load would include 6th and 7th grade religion, which each meet three days a week. Because the course is for a religion teacher, the candidate must be Catholic. In addition to teaching, position also includes silent reading, recess, sports and activities, and other duties as assigned by the principal

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree and three years of teaching experience is preferred

  • A strong commitment to the values and principles of Catholic education

  • Willingness to participate in Jesuit spiritual and professional development programs

  • Superior communication skills and the ability to be a positive contributor to the team

Brooklyn Jesuit Prep is an Equal Opportunity Employer and has an institutional commitment to diversity and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds.

Applicants should submit a current resume, letter of interest, list of references, and one professional letter of recommendation by mail or email attachments to:
