The Middle School Pod Lead position presents an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role that will help the Viejas Tribal Education Center's middle school students (grades 6-8) succeed and thrive. Using experience and knowledge in middle school curriculum along with essential skills in team building, management, and communication, the Middle School Pod Lead will provide support to students, tutors, parents, and teachers. This position is a contract position. Monday-Thursday, 1-5pm (must be available one of those days to have morning hours as well)

Responsibilities:

Support middle school students by offering one-on-one support as needed, discussing a plan of action for low grades and missing assignments with students and tutors, assessing for and implementing relevant interventions, and creating incentive programs

Supervise, manage, and support middle school tutors, which includes providing guidance, scheduling, conducting helpful and constructive performance evaluations, holding monthly pod meetings, creating a team environment, and training new tutors

Include parents and encourage them to be involved in their child's education through consistent communication

Complete minor admin tasks such as reviewing paperwork, attending monthly Pod Lead meetings, and sending Google calendar invites

Work with local schools to create lasting relationships

Required Skills

Associate's degree (education related field preferred)

Demonstrate knowledge and competence in all middle school core subjects (math, science, social studies, and language arts)

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Strong leadership skills

Exceptional time management and organizational skills

Ability to work comfortably with people from different backgrounds

Exhibit patience and a positive attitude

Capable of motivating and inspiring a team

Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Preferred Skills:

Bachelor's degree in education related field and/or teaching credential(s)

Middle school teaching experience
2 or more years in a leadership/managerial position
