Title: Middle School Math and Science Teacher
Location: Ephraim Curtis Middle School
Reports to: Principal
Position Summary:
Ephraim Curtis Middle School is seeking a qualified Teacher with a Math/Science Certifications to engage students in lessons that support student learning of scientific and mathematical concepts and practices. The candidate will work professionally with other school and district staff to address a diverse range of student needs.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach science curriculum as indicated in the SPS Learning Expectations for Science & Technology/Engineering document;
Plan and implement effective instruction as described by the NCTM's Mathematics Teaching Practices, following the content and practice standards of the MA Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics;;
Embed the math/science literacy standards of the English Language Arts Curriculum Standards into science lessons;
Plan and implement engaging science lessons using a variety of effective research-based instructional strategies;
Differentiate lessons using strategies and materials that address a variety of academic, language, social, emotional, and physical abilities;
Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications as outlined in student learning plans (e.g. IEP, 504, BCAP, and ISSP);
Administer standards-based formative and summative assessments, including grade-level common assessments and use resulting data to inform instructional curricular decisions;
provide students with descriptive, accurate, and timely feedback on assessments, including strengths, weaknesses, and next steps for progress toward the learning targets;
Establish and communicate to students clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects;
Communicate with parents/guardians and students about student progress and needs;
Meet with team teachers, counselors, and administrators regularly to discuss student progress;
Maintain accurate and thorough student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations;
Follow all administration policies and rules governing students;
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competency;
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required;
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Familiarity with Desmos and Open SciEd, a plus
Classification: SEA Unit Position
Work Year: 183 days (1.0 FTE)
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience based on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.
