Middle School Instructional Assistant--Safety Monitor

Hours: 8:15-3:45 with a 30-minute duty-free and unpaid lunch

Primary Job Expectations:

• Supervise students during passing periods, especially when entering and exiting the building

• Assist with school safety

• Demonstrate effective communication with classroom teachers and office staff

• Build positive relationship with middle school students and staff

• Collaborate with staff

Secondary Job Expectations:

• Attend to the safety and well-being of the students

• Supervise students in a calm, respectful manner

• Assist in implementing behavior management techniques as directed by the teacher or behavior intervention plan, as needed

• Respect student and school confidentiality.

• Participate in orientation and professional development activities provided by the school as well as training provided by the immediate supervisor.

As needed:

• Assist teachers in a variety of general education classroom settings

• Assist and support the teacher and other school personnel in the implementation of student Individual Education Plans

• Tutor individuals or groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher and special education teacher

• Provide clerical assistance to the teacher in preparing materials, maintaining classroom records, and other specific tasks

• Perform all other duties as directed by the classroom teacher or administrator
