Reporting to the High School Services Director, the High School + Middle School Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing job readiness opportunities for youth ages 13-18. This position supports each club's 13-18 year-old youth through targeted mentorship, social and character building programming with an emphasis on job readiness with earning potential. The Coordinator is responsible for achieving the outlined goals and objectives of the high school services program. Our overall goal is for every high school member at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco to graduate from high school with a diploma or GED with a clear transition plan to college, work, or a vocational training program while building relevant skills now.

This position is part time (25 hours weekly) supporting our Excelsior Clubhouse per the job posting. This position is benefits eligible.

KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):

Job Readiness/Career Exploration

  • 50%
  • Facilitate job readiness and career exploration programming/curriculum in a small group setting, specifically transitioning 8th graders.

  • Connect members to internship and job opportunities utilizing youth workforce development service programs and best practices.

  • Build relationships with partnering and new organizations to connect members to for possible employment opportunities.

  • Offer one on one support and facilitate workshops to members for resume building, cover letter creation, job applications, mock interviews, and other topics that enhance job readiness.

  • Lead several career exposure opportunities with the support of Citywide Teen Services and the High School and Middle School Services Directors.

  • Under the direction of the High School Services Director and Middle School Director assist with interns placed at the Clubhouse.

  • Work with the Middle School Director, High School Services Director, Site Director, and Clubhouse Director in continually enhancing the Middle School to High School transition plans, programs, and process including Torch to Keystone and LIT prep.

Mentorship/Counseling

  • 30%
  • Formally mentor five or more 13-18 year-old youth members.

  • Build life skills development programs for Club members to successfully transition out of the Clubhouse at age 18.

  • Assist all interested 13-18 year-old members individually or in small groups in areas such as academics, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.

  • Use data to develop comprehensive programs that meet Clubhouse member needs.

  • Under the direction of the High School Services and Middle School Director co-facilitate Torch and/or Keystone Clubs.

Administrative

  • 10%
  • Manage and analyze attendance and participation data.

  • Attend all meetings, conferences, and training as required.

  • Any other duties the Clubhouse Director might deem necessary to the best interest of the Club and the overall organization.

  • At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.

Other Job Segments

  • Promote and stimulate high school membership in the Teen Services department ensuring that every teen Club member receives needed resources and support necessary to meet individual goals, interests, and needs.

  • Facilitate the integration of high school members into other departments of the organization/Clubhouse.

  • Plan, organize, and conduct cultural programs and activities; including clubs, celebrations, dance, and discussion groups.

  • Assist with facilitating Teen & MS Night activities.

  • Partner with other agencies in the community to help support the Teen Center.

  • Supervise the maintenance and operation of the department's physical property, ensuring club member safety at all times.

  • Transport Club members in Club vehicles or on public transportation as needed.

Requirements

Requirements

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Culturally competent.

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or related work experience.

  • Strong classroom management/discipline skills.

  • Some knowledge of A-G requirements and the ability to help youth navigate the college application process.

  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience working with youth in grades 9th-12th grade.

  • Ability to develop and implement organized educational programs and services.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrates organization skills.

  • Red Cross first aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.

  • Strong program/classroom facilitator.

  • Strong skill set around resume building, cover letter development, and interview administration.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Working knowledge of child/adolescent development theories.

  • Working knowledge of Restorative Justice principles and practices.

  • Strong computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Office, database and records management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.

  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long time periods.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on the circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry-level, mid-level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $22-22.50.
