Middle School Counselor

Discovery Magnet School is a 27J magnet school focused on science and problem based learning (PBL). Discovery Magnet School is a K-8 school serving the entire 27J district. This is the only school of its kind in 27J, and we want staff who are passionate about our values and our mission. Responsibilities:

• Implement the district comprehensive counseling framework

• Manage 504 caseload grades 6-8

• Assist scheduling electives for grades 5-8

• Assist developing PBL units for CASEL standards during advisory for grades 6-8

• Provide quality counseling services including academic counseling and emotional counseling

• Counsel, teach and work with a diverse population

• Work with incoming students and teachers around conflict mediation, bullying, peer mentors, and leadership training

• Develop positive, appropriate relationships with parents, staff and students and solve conflicts in a positive way

• Participation in staff development activities, staff meetings, and assigned duties

Qualifications:

• Certification/Licensing as a School Counselor as required by Colorado Department of Education

• Master's degree in counseling or psychology

• 3-5 years experience as a middle schoo school counselor preferred

• An understanding of standards-based grading

• Knowledge of middle school students' interests, needs, and abilities with a commitment and dedication to students and education

• Ability to work well with others

• Ability to meet the emotional and academic needs of all students
