MIDDLE SCHOOL BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST

QUALIFICATIONS:
Michigan Teaching Certificate, or experience as a school counselor, probation officer, social worker, or someone with training in behavior interventions to serve at risk students.
Familiarity with the special education referral process, Response to Intervention (RTI) and intervention practices.
Ability to develop social skills activities to address the various needs of the students
Problem solving/conflict resolution techniques
PREFERRED QUALITIES:
Must be a positive role model for ALL students.
Excellent written and oral communication a must.
Must have excellent organizational and planning skills.
Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must work well with at-risk students.
Ability to work with school counselor
JOB GOAL:
Works with individuals and small groups to define and implement behavior techniques that support effective classroom learning. Provide academic and social/emotional support to 31A/At-risk students selected for the program. . The interventionist will work with students to decrease the number of discipline referrals of at-risk students. Collaborates with classroom teachers and administrators continuously to enhance the behavior and academic performance of at-risk students. Communicates between home and school to help meet the individual needs of students. Facilitates the behavioral plan process with administrator, school counselor, staff and parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Keep appropriate records, schedules, services logs and data collection records needed for planning and reporting progress of students.
Support identified at-risk students to access and benefit from the general education curriculum through specialized instruction and related services (pre-referral interventions strategies)
Maintains continuous contact with families on their child's progress
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
Manages the behavior of learners in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school.
Willing to learn, acquire and apply new skills and knowledge
Ability to multi-task: prioritized and organize multiple projects/tasks
Ability to work and communicate effectively with the staffs of two elementary buildings.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal or School Counselor
SALARY: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal
STARTING DATE: August 2024
