Job Goal:

To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of individuals as directed by the principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Promotes middle school philosophy and goals

2.Assists in the maintenance of high standards of student conduct and carries out discipline responses as necessary, according to school board policy and student handbook rules.

3.Monitors the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students.

4.Maintains positive relationships with students and families.

5.Makes arrangements for special conferences for students, families, and teachers.

6.Assists in the supervision of staff members.

7.Interprets and enforces district personnel policies and regulations.

8.Assists in the professional development and training of staff members.

9.Assists in the maintenance of an effective learning climate in the school.



  1. Assists the principal in the supervision of extra-curricular activities as needed.

  2. Assists the principal in the supervision of the daily use of the school facilities.

  3. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school building.

  4. Assists in the maintenance of the inventory of school property.

  5. Assists in the maintenance of all required records and reports.

  6. Prepares school reports as directed by the principal.

  7. Assists the principal in planning and supervising an emergency preparedness program for the school.

  8. Assumes responsibility for school correspondence as directed by the principal.

  9. Serves on school committees and counsels as directed by the principal.

  10. Participates in administrators' meetings and such other meetings as are requested or appropriate.

  11. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on district level issues.

  12. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding.

  13. Acts as liaison for the school with various law enforcement and public agencies as directed by the principal.

  14. Assists in the development of school bulletins, handbooks, and newsletters.

  15. Assumes responsibility for one's own professional growth by attending professional meetings and by reading professional journals and other publications.

  16. Participates in the district's inservice and professional development.

  17. Other duties may be assigned.


Length of Contract: One hundred ninety-one (191) contract days

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Masters Degree. Five years experience as a classroom teacher preferred. Previous experience in a leadership position at the district/state level preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate and valid elementary or secondary administrator certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

REASONABLE ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
