JOB OPPORTUNITY

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Mid-Level Practitioner in the Health, Housing & Community Services Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your education and training as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide services in the Mental Health or Public Health Division.

In the Mental Health Division, the Mid-Level Practitioner works under the supervision of a Psychiatrist and provides complete psychiatric assessments including mental status examinations and psychiatric diagnosis. provides treatments of both chronic and episodic psychiatric disorders.

In the Public Health Division, the Mid-Level Practitioner provides health care at the Berkeley High School Health Center (BHSHC) and the City of Berkeley's Public Health Clinic. This position has overall responsibility for the delivery of clinical care and supports other clinical staff.

This is an hourly, part-time position working up to 19 hours per week. It is not a benefited position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant program of instruction approved by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance (BMQA) and one year of experience in a health related occupation, OR
  • Meets the minimum qualifications for employment with the City of Berkeley as a Registered Nurse and has successfully completed an approved preceptorship and appropriate academic training in an area of specialization covering extended roles in traditional nursing.

Other requirements include:

  • Possession of a valid Physician's Assistant Certificate issued by the California BMQA, OR
  • Possession of a temporary Physician's Assistant Certificate issued by the California BMQA and ability to successfully pass the next scheduled licensing examination, OR
  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of California and ability to meet all other requirements as a Nurse Practitioner as specified in standards of the Board of Registered Nursing.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but is not limited to:

  • Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
