Role Summary/Purpose

L3 Space & Sensor center is currently looking for a RF/Microwave Antenna Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a broad range of experience that supports the specification, analysis, implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting of launch vehicle and satellite antenna hardware and associated RF/microwave systems. The successful candidate needs an understanding of the specification and design of antennas for aerospace applications, design of RF/microwave matching networks, simulation and modeling approaches for antennas, and antenna test and measurement techniques.

The individual must create detailed specifications to procure antenna hardware, evaluate performance data to assess RF system performance, and troubleshoot and correct RF/microwave system faults. The individual will be the technical point of contact for both customers in the system application of antenna hardware and vendors for detailed design parameters and technical oversight.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Act as the central customer technical point of contact for RF/microwave antenna hardware in evaluating new system designs and supporting existing designs.

  • Support, evaluate, and oversee antenna hardware vendors in the manufacture of antenna and support equipment for space launch vehicle and satellite applications.

  • Analyze antennas, matching networks, and cabling to resolve RF/microwave system faults.

  • Utilize antenna simulation and modeling tools to predict performance.

  • Document test results, resolve failures to root cause, and work with internal and external customers to implement repair and improvement plans.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering degree is required. A master's degree is preferred.

  • Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in the design, test, troubleshooting, or specification of aerospace-grade antennas and their application in RF/microwave systems is required.

  • Design skills: Ability to construct antenna and matching network simulations, detailed knowledge of antenna mechanical structures (particularly conformal and parabolic types), detailed knowledge of RF/microwave system theory to create and evaluate link budgets and communication performance parameters, and knowledge of antenna test and qualification procedures.

  • Computer skills: Ability to use 3D electromagnetic simulation software, knowledge of antenna and matching network modeling techniques, and ability to perform antenna performance analysis and hardware tests.

Competencies / Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with electrical and mechanical aspects of antennas for space launch vehicles and satellite applications preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customer technical and program management teams

  • Time Management & Organizational skills: ability to plan effectively using various scheduling tools, flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, ability to maintain confidentiality.

The candidate is expected to work in a team setting to support project managers during transactional due diligence. Primary responsibilities and duties include: subject matter expertise in battery energy storage and associated applications, integration with renewable and dispatchable energy sources, SCADA and grid integration controls, HOMER modeling experience, and business development. Other duties may include assisting the team in support of managing projects, developing sales proposals, and technology reviews. Qualifications: * Undergraduate degree in engineering required, with MBA and/or advanced degree in engineering, finance, business, or related management area preferred. * Typically requires a Bachelor's of Science in engineering and 12 - 15 years of prior relevant experience or MBA and/or advanced degree in engineering, finance, business, or related management with 10 - 13 years of prior relevant experience * Specific experience as an application engineer for battery storage. * Experience with lead acid, NiCad, lithium-ion and flow batteries is preferred. * Commercial experience with construction contracts and contractors for utility-scale and C&I battery storage projects. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Expertise in modeling with HOMER or commercial equivalent. * Ability to work independently or as part of a team. * Ability to successfully meet deadlines under pressure.
