Your Role:

The Microbiology Department Manager has the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and staff members in the Microbiology department. Responsible for performing duties so as to operate the department with the highest quality safety and integrity, and in an efficient, economical and businesslike manner are of utmost importance. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Ability to manage the overall laboratory production operation, including service and customer report delivery, turnaround time, sample receipt, and process improvement.

  • Experience in managing department and overseeing laboratory staff on staffing needs, communication, employee training, professional growth, employee behavior, corrective action, scheduling and payroll submission.

  • Knowledge in clinical microbiology testing and quality management is essential. Able to write and understand technical procedures and effectively teach, coach and assess competencies.

  • Focus on facility maintenance including condition of equipment in the laboratory, instrument calibrations and preventive maintenance, facility lease renewals, site repairs, site security and housekeeping.

  • Ability to work independently under pressure and recognize and resolve problem efficiently and effectively

  • Willingness to assist QA and Safety to ensure that laboratory operations are compliant with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulations.

  • Coordinate operations assistance with sales and marketing by development of new services, transitioning new accounts, promoting and marketing laboratory services and acquiring new accounts.

  • Collaborate with Business Office staff to assist with coding of lab procedures in order to maintain third party reimbursement.

  • Support companywide initiative and goals through an adherence to corporate policies at the laboratory level and communicating; promotes and guides company initiatives and policies at the local level with employees.

  • Assist lab manager in managing cost control, expenses and vendor contracts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

  • CA Clinical Lab Scientist license

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University

  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Your Role: The CLS will correlate and integrate other patient data when interpreting test results and report results, which are substantiated by the proper use of appropriate quality control systems. The CLS will also use professional judgment and have an in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific principles, quality control and instrument maintenance. In this position you must recognize problems, identify causes, and determine alternative methods and solutions as well as actively contribute to quality assurance activities and participate in proficiency testing. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Perform a variety of standardized tests within microbiology department. Perform microbiological examinations for the detection and identification of pathogenic bacteria from blood cultures, urine, effluent, throat, and wound cultures. * Make microbiological examinations of body fluids and blood specimens * Performs other quality control procedures to assure the operational accuracy of equipment and test reproducibility * Perform first line maintenance * Read plates as required, to determine the number of organisms in the sample. Record findings on worksheet for verification * Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities * Set up equipment, samples, and materials needed for analysis * Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process * The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform only those tests for which the scientist is qualified by education, training, and/or experience * Other duties as assigned Your Qualifications: * Clinical Lab Scientist license from the State of California * Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University and one to two years related experience * Knowledge of accepted clinical laboratory practice and procedures including handling of potentially infectious material and familiarity with California law relating to the practice of medical technology * Knowledge of computer skills, quality control and instrument maintenance Strong communication skills, both written and verbal * Analytical problem-solving skills, proficiency in performing detailed tasks thoroughly and completely, and the ability to follow complicated instructions with accuracy * Good organizational skills * The ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate satisfactorily in English, in person and on the telephone * Strong knowledge of multiple specialties * Strong knowledge of quality control and calibration * Strong knowledge of lab equipment and procedures * High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Advantages: * Entrepreneurial spirit - As the industry leader, we are continually innovating and breaking new ground. * Dynamic environment - Expect new challenges and make an impact every day. * Personal development - Always opportunities to learn and grow. * Generous benefits - Medical, PTO Policy and Company 401K match.
