The Microbiology Department Manager has the overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and staff members in the Microbiology department. Responsible for performing duties so as to operate the department with the highest quality safety and integrity, and in an efficient, economical and businesslike manner are of utmost importance. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Ability to manage the overall laboratory production operation, including service and customer report delivery, turnaround time, sample receipt, and process improvement.
Experience in managing department and overseeing laboratory staff on staffing needs, communication, employee training, professional growth, employee behavior, corrective action, scheduling and payroll submission.
Knowledge in clinical microbiology testing and quality management is essential. Able to write and understand technical procedures and effectively teach, coach and assess competencies.
Focus on facility maintenance including condition of equipment in the laboratory, instrument calibrations and preventive maintenance, facility lease renewals, site repairs, site security and housekeeping.
Ability to work independently under pressure and recognize and resolve problem efficiently and effectively
Willingness to assist QA and Safety to ensure that laboratory operations are compliant with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulations.
Coordinate operations assistance with sales and marketing by development of new services, transitioning new accounts, promoting and marketing laboratory services and acquiring new accounts.
Collaborate with Business Office staff to assist with coding of lab procedures in order to maintain third party reimbursement.
Support companywide initiative and goals through an adherence to corporate policies at the laboratory level and communicating; promotes and guides company initiatives and policies at the local level with employees.
Assist lab manager in managing cost control, expenses and vendor contracts.

CA Clinical Lab Scientist license
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University
Exceptional customer service skills
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
