The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Microbiologist, Principal for the Dairy Lab in the Bureau of Labs located in Boise.
Example of Duties
Laboratory Evaluation Officer (LEO):
Prepare annual split sample surveys for FDA certified laboratories for Section 6 and Appendix N testing that meet national standards.
Evaluate split sample results, prepare a written report, determine level of certification, and notify proper state and federal departments, companies, and industry personnel.
Perform on-site evaluations to certify analysts and facilities to ensure compliance. Perform investigations regarding deficiencies. Decertify analysts or facilities as necessary.
Provide training, support and technical assistance to the Dairy Bureau and the dairy industry.
Attend required training workshops and seminars.
Maintain laboratory certifications.
Perform required testing.
Perform required QA/QC testing.
Prepare reports to be used by the FDA, state, and surveyed laboratories.
Fulfill responsibilities of an ISDA employee as outlined in the department's Risk Management/Safety Policy.
These qualifications are mandatory requirements.
Completion of the core requirements for a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry from an accredited college to include courses in bacteriology, immunology, and pathogenic bacteriology, and closely related classes in life sciences; AND approximately four years of journey level supervised laboratory experience providing considerable knowledge of:
OR completion of a Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related science including the above listed courses, AND three years experience as above.
These qualifications are not required; however, if you have the related background it may increase your score.
Experience working within the Dairy Industry
Experience working in a diagnostic laboratory
Experience working in Quality Assurance
Experience performing Coliform Plate Counts, Somatic Cell quantification, testing for the presence of antibiotics, and testing for pasteurization.
Temporary appointments from this announcement, serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.
