Duties Summary

Microbiologists supervise and/or perform professional scientific work in the detection, isolation, identification, cultivation, use and control of microorganisms. At the III level, he/she independently performs the full range of microbiological work in one or more areas. The position may also be assigned to research and investigational projects to carry out major segments under the guidance of a microbiologist in overall charge, or may direct and oversee the work of lower level professional or technical personnel and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in microbiology, bacteriology, or biology. Coursework must have included subjects such as:

a. Bacteriology, immunology, serology, mycology, parasitology, molecular biology or virology;

b. Food, dairy, soil, industrial, public health, agriculture or applied bacteriology or microbiology;

c. Genetics, physiology, metabolism, epidemiology, animal or plant physiology or pathology.

All of the above coursework must be closely related to the study of microorganisms; AND must include physical and mathematical sciences which include coursework such as inorganic, qualitative, quantitative and organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, college algebra, or statistics.

Note: To be creditable, the focus and content of the course must have been substantively devoted to the required subject area.

Specialized Experience: One year of professional experience in the detection, isolation, identification, cultivation, use and/or control of microorganisms. Such experience may have been gained in such scientific disciplines as bacteriology, immunology serology, mycology, parasitology, virology or other related areas of science.

Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.

Selective Certification - Specialized License: Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain, a current Clinical Laboratory Specialist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist License issued by the State of Hawaii, Department of Health.

Duties Summary Full performance level for general construction inspection work. Independently inspect all phases of public works construction and major maintenance projects such as buildings, wharves, piers, pipelines, breakwaters, seawalls, paving and dredging, for conformance with plans, specifications, contracts, regulations and standard methods of work; assure compliance with designs, specifications and applicable workmanship, material and safety codes and standards; and perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Requirements Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Full-time supervisory work experience over a force of skilled trades workers in the construction industry, provided the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship and materials for adherence to such plans and specifications. At least one (1) year of Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the General Construction Inspector II level as described below: General Construction Inspector II independently inspect structures of limited complexity or several phases of the construction of major waterfront facilities and public improvements to ascertain whether construction methods, practices, materials and workmanship conform to provisions of contracts, plans, specifications, regulations and standard methods of work; resolve problems based on precedents or instructions; and perform other related duties as assigned.
