Ahlstrom is seeking Micrex Operators to join its overnight production team at its non-union paper mill in Windsor Locks, CT. In this position, you will be responsible for the micrexing (creping) of medical grade paper, achieving a high standard of workmanship and timely completion of shop orders at the lowest unit cost. The position is responsible for housekeeping within their workspace and must comply with any and all safety rules and regulations.
Schedule: In this position, you will work overnight, approximately 42 hours/week. The position is also required to work every other weekend.

A full rate of $31.25 once training is completed and certification obtained, $20/hour to start, and $24/hour after 50% completion of the training program
$0.30 per hour 2nd shift differential, $0.46 3rd shift differential

The Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities of this role include:
Set up, operate and control the micrex process. Break in main rolls when required. Thread line for micrexing, adjust slitters, and adjust settings to control process.
Meet production and quality standards for micrexing.
Ensure accurate data entry into AS400.
Ensure the quality of production by performing workmanship audits, attributing inspections, and meeting specification standards as required.
Read, understand, and follow Process Maps, work instructions, slitting instructions, customer item directory, QA dispositions, inventory identification tickets and any other instructions.
Physically control the movement, loading and mounting of manufactured rolls of paper for processing.
Understand and comply with general, departmental and job specific safety rules, as well as the Site Safety Plan. Comply with all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. Correct or identify any unsafe act or conditions to his/her supervisor.
Responsible for reporting any mechanical defective parts or malfunctions to supervision and submit work orders as needed. Communicate daily process related problems to supervision and at shift change; i.e. waste, maintenance, trials and recommend corrective action.
Understand maintenance requirements of machinery and generate work orders for required maintenance.
Operate packing support equipment; cranes, upenders, lift tables, hand trucks, etc. as required.
This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross-train and be fully qualified to work in an at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
Temporary assignments to alternate workstations may be required to meet production demand.
Minimum Occupational Requirements:
A minimum of 1 year of experience as a machine operator is required
High school diploma or GED required
Must be computer literate
Must have proficient basic math skills
Must be able to read, speak, and write in English
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to upgrade job skills through participation in periodic training programs as available.
Must be willing to provide on the job training for crewmembers
Must be physically and mentally able to perform similar job functions in other areas
Physical Occupational Requirements:
Must possess the ability to see, hear, talk, sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle controls
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly and complete tasks that require difficult positioning.
Ability to step and bend in between machine rollers.
Ability to step onto and work from a catwalk.
Must be able to step and bend between machine rollers, carry and mount slitter assemblies onto machine dovetail to setup and thread machine.
Exposure to dust, vibration, chemical, temperature variation and sharp cutting equipment.
Protective equipment is required.
Ability to work carefully around potentially dangerous machinery.
Must be physically able to operate a lift truck and overhead crane/hoist
High manual dexterity, close sustained visual attention.
