Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

FOR MHP POSTINGS

This position MAY be eligible for SCDMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 525 Lafayette Street, Georgetown, SC 29440

Under general supervision, provides advanced therapeutic services, particularly as a specialist for children and adolescent services in the Georgetown County Based Program for WCMH.

Provides, counseling and case management dealing with situations encompassing interpersonal health and psychosocial factors.

Provides crisis diversion services and consultation to individuals and/or agencies, hospitals, assessments, and intakes and WCMH outpatient department.

Provides services to all patients of WCMH and Georgetown Clinic.

Responsibilities of the Mental Health Professional includes but are not limited to:

  • Provides intensive counseling and case management to individuals and families with a focus on the chronically mentally ill utilization individual, group and family counseling including other approved center services. Maintaining an average bill time of direct services of 405 annually.

  • Develops treatment plans in coordination with clients, family, and treatment teams. Assists with treatment scheduling and meetings.

  • Maintains documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, SCMDH, WCHM, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARP standards.

  • Assists clients in gaining appropriate services, consults with local agencies, organization and human service providers.

  • Performs other related duties as required by supervisor and clinic director.

  • Provides on-call services as directed by clinic director.

Thorough knowledge of the range and scope of services provided in a comprehensive mental health program service children and families and the unique treatment needs of this special population.

Ability to integrate and coordinate services with those of other disciplines and to communicate effectively. The employee will be able to perform case management, interviewing and assessment skills. Will participate in on-going in-service training and other education opportunities in order to maintain and/or acquire necessary job skills

Employee shall be self-directed and motivated, functioning independently and exercising good clinical judgement.

Will work under the direct supervision of clinic director and program manager. The employee will be evaluated on an annual basis under the DMH EPMS review system.

Will provide after-hours emergency services as directed by clinic director. May require home visits using state vehicle. Some travel may be required. State vehicle will be provided.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences. Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker is preferred.

Must be able to meet DMH credentialing requirements. In order to satisfy DMH Credentialing Requirements, applicant must show graduate coursework including the following:

Psychopathology Course

Psychopathology Diagnostic Course

Clinical Assessment

  • Pracika with Family Therapy (DSM) or any related assessment graduate coursework

Ethics Course - related to medical profession

Agency Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences. Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker is preferred.

Must be able to meet DMH credentialing requirements. In order to satisfy DMH Credentialing Requirements, applicant must show graduate coursework including the following:

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with children, adolescents and their families in a school-based program.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
