Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is looking for an experienced Pharmacist Manager to direct pharmacy operations. The SHAC Pharmacy provides full pharmacy services to UNM students, faculty, and staff, with an emphasis on patient education and medical staff support.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Operations for day-to-day operations and financial management, and receives collaborative clinical support from the Executive and Associate Medical Directors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:
Pharmacy Director (Pharmacist in Charge):
1.Fill new prescriptions and refills of medications using various forms of compliance packaging.
2.Act as primary contact between the pharmacy and SHAC clinical staff, including consultants. Works with the medical director to deliver educational updates and training to clinicians as indicated.
3.Actively manage compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements including New Mexico Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and AAAHC.
4.Responsible for maintaining systems to handle prescription and insurance information in a HIPAA
and FERPA compliant manner.
5.Provides innovative support of the SHAC clinicians in managing the burden of prior authorizations.
6.Maintain secure and efficient oversight of all controlled substances as required by law and informed by best practices.
7.Responsible for coordinating an active P & T committee with the medical director, including developing a formulary and providing support of a small, separate clinic pharmacy.
Manager of Pharmacy Operations:
1.Provide exceptional customer service to all patients.
2.Medication ordering and maintenance of appropriate inventory controls within the pharmacy (QS1 and Cardinal); minimize medication returns.
3.Develop internal controls and operating procedures according to best practices as identified by UNM Information Technology and College of Pharmacy consultants, including:
a. Manage rejected claims
b. Conduct gross margin analysis
c. Run discrepancy reports
d. Cash payment reporting
e. Actively manage insurance (PBM) contracts regarding vendor compliance with reimbursement rates
f. Develop a clear understanding of pharmacy financial operations and the ability to generate and interpret functional financial reports
g. Collaborate with senior managers to ensure the pharmacy is financially sound and provides a value to UNM Students consistent with SHAC's stated mission
h. Work closely with Director of Operations and accountant to manage the pharmacy budget
i. Manage accounts payable to minimize debt write offs
4.Supervise and coordinate the activities of the pharmacy technicians and other employee sand assume responsibility for other duties related to personnel.
5.Participate as a collaborative member of the SHAC management team, including goal setting, review of organization-wide priorities and quality improvement activities.
6.Look for opportunities to promote and increase pharmacy sales as informed by SHAC's mission.
7.Knowledge of federal and state requirements for filling prescriptions and insurance compliance.
8.Follows FERPA and HIPAA regulations and preserves strict confidentiality of client information, including security issues around the handling and transmitting of personal health information (PHI).

Conditions of Employment
May require discipline-specific licensure and/or professional certification, as specified by the department in the preferences.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status if required by third party payers or accrediting agencies.
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/LicensureState of New Mexico Licensed Pharmacist.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
1.At least 5 years of experience managing a retail or clinical pharmacy.
2.At least 5 years of management experience including hiring, firing, training, and completing performance evaluations for staff.
3.At least 5 years of experience with 3rd party billing, set-up, processing, reconciliation and compliance.
4.At least 5 years of experience purchasing pharmaceuticals and establishing inventory control systems and procedures.
5.Experience with electronic pharmaceutical purchasing systems such as QS1.
6.Experience with developing operational business plans for optimizing pharmacy revenue.
7.Evaluating and troubleshooting pharmacy computer systems (Cardinal and QS1).
8.Experience advising medical practitioners on various aspects of prescribing through meetings, newsletters and other forms of verbal and written communications.
9.Experience managing formulary.
10. Experience with Pharmacy regulations, policies, procedures, and compliance.
