Assists in planning and execution of meetings and special events. Position assists in the implementation of departmental strategies. The position has responsibility for assisting in the execution of all property events with a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales where appropriate.


Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; 2 years experience in the event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area.


  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major; 1 year experience in the event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area.


Assisting in Managing Meetings and Special Events Operations and Budgets

  • Researches and analyzes new products, pricing and services of competition.

  • Assists in apprising property of all groups that will impact property operations.

  • Assists in execution of event management strategy that is aligned with the company's business strategy and leads its execution.

  • Conducts daily walk-through of banquet floor to help ensure client satisfaction and quality standards.

Managing Profitability

  • Assists in developing working relationships with outside vendors and establishing prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience and to increase additional revenue opportunities for the property as needed.

  • Creates opportunities to upsell during event planning.

  • Assists in managing department controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.

Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

  • Creates an atmosphere in all event management operations areas that meets or exceeds guest expectations.

  • Sets a positive example for guest relations.

  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.

  • Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints.

  • Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service.

  • Ensures employees understand expectations and parameters.

  • Strives to improve service performance.

  • Emphasizes guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focuses on continuous improvement.

Requirements Director of Events and Special Projects - McCourt School of Public Policy The Institute of Politics and Public Service (GU Politics) at Georgetown's McCourt School of Public Policy is a nonacademic program established to better connect students with the political process and empower them to make it work better. Driven by a belief that better understanding can lead to more civil and productive politics, GU Politics offers a series of programs focused on practical and applied politics that offers students opportunities to directly engage with leading members of the political, governmental, journalism and advocacy communities; explore ideas to improve the process; and work to put some of those ideas into practice. The Director of Events & Special Projects will be responsible for developing and executing a strategy for dynamic and timely weekly events sponsored by the Institute of Politics and Public Service. He/she will be responsible for identifying opportunities for speakers, panels, symposia, event series, experiential learning opportunities for students, trips, and other events serving the Georgetown community and beyond. The Director of Events and Special Projects will be responsible for all aspects of event management, from setting the strategic vision with the Executive Director, developing and maintaining the calendar of events, overseeing outreach to potential program participants, working with the communications team to promote, coordinating with the operations team on execution, and staffing the actual events. Duties include but are not limited to: Oversee Speakers Program and Event Series * Identify opportunities for speakers, panels, symposia, event series, experiential learning opportunities for students, trips, and other events serving the Georgetown community and beyond. * Develop and maintain the calendar of events. * Oversee outreach to potential program participants. * Work with the communications team to promote events. * Staff the actual events (including evening events). Strategic Planning, Operations and Logistics * Work with the Executive Director to build a strategic plan for events and special projects for the current year and beyond. * Work with all appropriate GU Politics, McCourt School, and broader university staff to operationalize and execute all aspects of events and special programs. Requirements * Bachelor's Degree or higher * Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in politics, government, advocacy, political campaigns, public relations, journalism or a related field * Strong understanding of and passion for politics, government, public policy, media, advocacy, and current affairs is essential * Strategic thinker with strong planning, management organizational skills * Strong skills in leadership, problem-solving, time management and communication * Strong interpersonal/relationship building skills * Willing and able to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary * Ability to build and foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders * Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and achieve goals * Experience in development, outreach and coalition building is helpful Current Georgetown Employees: If you currently work at Georgetown University, please exit this website and login to GMS ( using your Net ID and password.
