The University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Education Abroad (EA) within the Global Education Office (GEO). GEO supports UNM's academic, research, and service missions through the promotion of global learning experiences and the sponsorship and exchange of international students, scholars, faculty, and staff. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team that engages across the university to promote comprehensive internationalization and to advance the position of UNM amongst the top public research universities. This is a 12-month, benefits eligible term position with possibility of annual renewal.
The Associate Director for Education Abroad reports directly to the Executive Director for Global Education Initiatives and is part of the GEO senior team. S/he oversees the Education Abroad office which includes 3 FTE education abroad advisors as well as student staff. The Associate Director is responsible
for providing leadership in:
Articulating a strategic vision of UNM's education abroad efforts and executing the vision to include comprehensive engagement, management, and training and development of EA staff.
Overseeing a variety of exchange and faculty-led programs to include developing support mechanisms for program participants and leaders, and managing relationships with partners abroad.
Providing health and safety oversight of UNM's study abroad programming. In cooperation with other campus units, coordinating health and safety projects, resources and services, including study abroad emergency preparedness and response plans.
Serving as first responder to all emergencies or perceived crises abroad.
Developing and implementing effective education abroad policies and procedures.
Coordinating UNM's student exchange partnerships and liaising with external affiliate programs to maintain exchange balances. Initiating, reviewing and updating related memorandums of understanding or agreements.
Collaborating with ISSS to develop and oversee inbound student exchange services and support.
Promoting and marketing study abroad participation and increasing the diversity of study abroad participants with an emphasis in working with non-traditional, underrepresented, and/or economically vulnerable populations.
Defining strategies to increase student access to study abroad, including scholarships.
Promoting best practices in study abroad curriculum design, assessment, and integration with academic programs of study.
Comprehensive data management/visualization, and demonstrated experience with related technologies, including the TerraDotta platform.
The person in this position must be able to initiate, develop, and sustain strong positive relations with faculty program directors and staff, department heads and deans, and administrators across campus.
Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours when needed. Position requires occasional international and domestic air travel.

Conditions of EmploymentMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Five years of leadership experience in international education to include:
Demonstrated experience in managing an office and supervising staff
Professional track record of sound judgment and decision-making as reflected in the ability to remain calm in crisis situations; handle matters confidentially; and exercise discretion with
Experience in data management and the use of information technologies, including data visualization
Proficiency in a foreign language and overseas living experience
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
A record of research/publication in international education or related field
