External Description:Strategic Sourcing Manager

  • New Product Introduction

Provide your leadership and strategic insights into the supply chain function alignment while leading a team of sourcing project leaders to deliver new products.

Your Profile

Working knowledge of Global Strategic Sourcing Function with experience in supply chain management and project management.

Bachelor's Degree in Technical, Operations, or Supply Chain Management disciplines. Master's in Business Administration and Project Management Professional Certification (PMI) desirable.
5-10 years of professional experience with 3 years minimum in sourcing & project management or product development roles.

Experience managing complex and high-risk projects, ability to lead in ambiguous situations with robust influencing skills to achieve results in a cross-functional matrix organization.

Ability to link business unit and product strategies to a global supply chain strategy to provide sustained competitive advantages through direct material supply, sourced technology, and supplied value.

Excellent communication skills bi-directionally within an organization and across various setting.

Brilliant at analytical assessment and problem-solving towards developing solutions complex operational and financial challenges.

Core Responsibilities

Initiates and lead change to provide breakthrough ideas in sourcing value add, process development, and supply chain risk management.

Manage and develop a team of Sourcing Project Leaders that are deployed into program teams to drive sourcing execution to material cost, tooling, and pre-production part financial and schedule milestone targets of projects.

Develop and lead a team of capable material planners that source and plan materials for pre-production builds.

Partner with assigned business unit and engineering Sr. Leadership as the represented single point of contact for strategic sourcing.

Execute to portfolio targets of cost, quality, schedule, and strategic KPI's for assigned business areas.

Operate globally and cross-functionally with supplier quality & development, engineering, manufacturing operations, suppliers, and category sourcing teams.

Demonstrate passion and high energy, with cooperative and customer obsessed mindset to motivate and influence others.

Provide commercial and strategic guidance to category sourcing teams to guide negotiations, manage project risk, and improve product knowledge/alignment.

Additional Requirements

Ability to travel globally with annualized range of 10% to 25%

Accountable for all sourced components within the program to ensure components are sourced within budget for BOM and tooling costs, on time per the established schedule, and meet all quality standards set forth. Work with Engineering Project Leader to establish BOM and tooling budgets for programs. Establish and own supplier tooling and development schedule for all sourced components in accordance to project milestones. Develop holistic sourcing strategy by vehicle platform to support new technology needs and category sourcing strategies. Identify gaps in supplier capability and technology, and proactively identify and on-board new suppliers as necessary with partnership of category sourcing teams. Pro-actively work with engineering and product management to develop and execute supplier facing intellectual property strategy that translates into competitive market advantage. Work autonomously and pro-actively across the sourcing and engineering organization, utilizing a bandwidth of technical and sourcing acumen to realize standard process and develop standard tools to support new product development. Utilize strong communication skills both verbal and written to communicate at all levels within the organization. Willingness to travel domestically and globally to collaborate and support potential supplier qualification and/or pre-production and concept vehicle builds. PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: BS/BA degree in Business, Supply Chain/Operations or Engineering. MBA Preferred. 5+ Years' experience in Project Management or Program Management. PMP or CAPM preferred. 3+ years in product development or procurement environments with demonstrated success highly preferred. Demonstrated effective negotiation, communication, decision making, and problem solving skills. Thorough understanding and/or experience in gate review processes related to new product development. Demonstrated ability to influence without authority. Experienced leading teams. Knowledge of engineering documentation, manufacturing process control, and technical data.
