The C4MD Engineering Department within the MDMC OU is seeking an Engineering Software Functional Manager for their Domestic Programs. The candidate will support technical execution of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command Systems (IBCS) Program Portfolio. Additionally, the candidate will have functional management responsibility for Software Engineers performing within the MDMC OU - Domestic Program Portfolio and shall perform, but is not limited to the following functional responsibilities: conducting mid-year and annual performance reviews, providing frequent performance feedback to direct reports, establishing and ensuring career growth and development plans are established and are progressing, staffing open positions within the software functional discipline, and supporting Engineering Organizational Goals and Initiatives. The selected candidate will report functionally to a Senior Level Manager within the MDMC OU Domestic Program Department.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 5 or more years of experience with Software Development or Engineering.

  • Basic familiarity of Waterfall, Agile and DevSecOps approaches

  • Experience supporting all phases of the program lifecycle

  • Understanding and experience with fundamental Software Engineering principles, techniques and processes

  • Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and managing small teams

  • Understanding of IBCS and/or Air and Missile Defense Systems

  • Agile and/or DevSecOps experience

Position is located in Huntsville, Alabama. This position's focus is the modification and maturation of the SLS Ground systems software and Avionics boxes Models and Simulations, integration into a software development lab that includes testing and verification of ground software, test sequence validation, and model validation for Core Stage 2 (CS2), Exploration Upper Stage 1 (EUS1) and the immediate production contract for CS3 -12 and EUS 2-9. The candidate will lead work with stakeholders and team to develop and verify software and develop, mature and automate the software build/deploy and testing processes. Position Responsibilities: * Lead testing, anomaly resolutions, validation of models and simulations to HW, and model modification/configuration tailoring for the variant software development and test asset platforms (e.g. computers, communication architecture/targets). * Conduct program independent reviews and reports results to program leadership. * Provide critical support of fielded software over the entire product lifecycle. * Lead research/activities into technology advances for application to company business needs (1st time quality, product excellence, process efficiency) * Make recommendations for technology investments. * Maintain a robust and auditable software version release process, to include problem reporting and resolution, Corrective and Preventative Action reporting. This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. Basic Qualifications: * All positions require the NASA Sensitivity/ITAR criteria to be met (US Persons). * Bachelors Degree in Engineering with 12 or more years of work experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Eletronics/Computer hardware engineering, or similar field developing/testing software OR 15+ years of demonstrated experience in industry software development, control and release * Possess expert ability to develop/analyze/and test code; developing in C/C++/C#, Java * Computer development lab experience, deploying a hardware development solution for software development maturation that will migrate/port to a flight hardware environment * Genuine desire to lead a team of Avionics software development and hardware/firmware integration in a complex integrated system (i.e. SLS Avionics) * Demonstrated team member/collaborative teamwork skills * Demonstrated leadership skills, conflict resolution, planning * Experience in briefing leadership on development status, planning Desired Qualifications: * Software development expertise in a Linux/Redhawk CentOS environment * Software development expertise in a Windows Environment * Lab View development expertise * Computer HW and Software (Driver/Firmware) expertise in troubleshooting platform conflicts and anomalies and driving and delivering effective resolutions * Scrum leader or team leader in an Agile software development environment * Multiple years or Experience with Software control applications such as Subversion, PCVS VersionOne, QT, Parasoft * Experienced with anomaly reporting and resolution, Change Management, Non Conformance Reporting and Resolution. * Application experience at a proficient to expert level with RF communications, 1553 communications, 422 communications, RTOS, Interrupt Timing and/or GPS * Application experience with Models and Simulation development, to include validation of the simulation, as well as the calibration of the simulation for actual hardware performance/function comparative testing and analysis. * Experience working on SLS program and with SLS avionics hardware and software is desirable. * Experience in space industry and with equivalent products is desirable. * Experience across a breadth of disciplines including hardware, software, systems and test is desirable. Typical education/experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience).
