Summary:

Manages the operational activities of the Advanced Imaging and Analytics Laboratory. Exercises critical thinking skills toward decision making which effectively addresses personnel management use of resources quality of services and fiscal management.

Plans directs and coordinates the work of assigned staff who perform radiographic image post-processing and imaging research. Leads the use of advanced visualization tools for enhancement reconstruction and analysis of imaging data; advanced analytical data mining; presentation and distribution; and integration of AI tools into the imaging process.

Responsibilities:

Leads the team responsible for producing 3D images from CT MRI and PET datasets for visualization of anatomic structures functional imaging and delineation of physiologic and pathologic processes.

Creates innovative services and carries out the vision of the program. Communicates effectively with internal technical and clinical staff along with an array of physicians and researchers.

Markets services to physicians organization-wide. Trains physicians technologists and researchers in the use of advanced imaging data evaluation and analysis tools. Reviews daily worklists and contacts appropriate physicians to ensure that services are ordered appropriately

Provides input in the planning and development of goals for the department. Actively participates in developing and supporting policies and procedures for the department. Advises and assists as needed on overall department policy development.

Researches information required to prepare departmental budgets. Works with the department Director as needed to finalize capital and operating budgets. Develops annual operating budget and determines and recommends expenditure priorities relative to anticipated demand for services.

Evaluates the day-to-day operational dynamics of the Advanced Imaging and Analytics Laboratory with respect to efficiency of staff and quality of services. Uses resources and makes operational changes as necessary to optimize resources measured against demands for timely high quality services.

Ensures the proper calibration maintenance and repair of all equipment. Works with vendors and the appropriate hospital department and personnel to secure records and documentation regarding equipment maintenance and calibration. Keeps current with new procedures imaging protocols equipment methods and practices.

Maintains regular contact with hospital departments and personnel to gather and exchange information regarding the efficiency and quality of operations. Evaluates the need to adjust services and operations to meet new expectations and resolve operating difficulties.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of diagnostic imaging procedures is required

Ability to manage very large and sophisticated data sets

Intermediate computer programming capabilities

Good understanding of research processes systems and organization

High-level of understanding of anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology required to understand image data sets

Team-oriented with the ability to work well with departmental chairs vice chairs and physician directors across the organization

Highly motivated

These skills can be obtained via a clinical degree in medical imaging or a degree in computer science degree or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience developing an imaging lab preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Exposed to radioactive materials and contact with patients who have various diseases. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.

Movement of imaging equipment as prescribed by vendors and lifting/positioning patients while exercising reasonable rules of body mechanics.

Supervisory responsibility for 2 FTEs

VIEW JOBS 1/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-12T00:00 Summary: Reporting to the Chief Radiotherapy Physicist participates in treatment planning by performing imaging registration and fusion and contouring by consulting with physicians and physicists. According to established policies and procedures is responsible for the performance of department procedures requiring the use of imaging techniques. Assists the Dosimetrists and functions as a lead resource person providing technical guidance and instructions interpreting communicating and administering policies and procedures. Instructs Radiation Therapy students and/or employees in the clinical procedures used. Performs clerical and/or administrative functions necessary to the efficient operation and for patient records. Works with patient imaging scans acquired with multiple scan systems including; CT MRI PET and 4D. This includes registering image sets followed by fusion with 2 more modalities. Responsible for importing and exporting of image sets. Manages active clinical databases including archiving and restoring patients from backup systems. Utilizes hospital informatics system to retrieve imaging and demographic data and import outside hospital imaging studies into in-house software systems and databases. Fuses distinct imaging studies on planning software. Delineates radiographic anatomy with commercial contouring software in CT and MRI. Utilizes experienced-based knowledge with little technical supervision to perform select duties of an advanced practice Dosimetrist in routine and complex post-imaging procedures including advanced imaging and research studies. Provides for the clinical experience of Dosimetry students instructing and guiding students through post-imaging procedures in area of responsibility. May review performance of student with supervisor. Provides on-the-job instructions to employees in clinical procedures in area of responsibility. May participate in formal in-service educational classes. Understands and practices ALARA Principles of Radiation Protection when applicable including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters when applicable. Assists Physicists in Regulatory Accreditations such as The American College of Radiology The Joint Commission Center for Medicare Services etc. Meets with Physicist to discuss need for new post-imaging sequences/protocols. Reviews fused images with Physicist to verify the information that has been obtained. Clarifies changes in Dosimetry workflow issues with Physicist. Works with the Physicist to provide in-service classes to Physicist Residents and Dosimetry students. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Two years formal training in an approved School of Radiological Technology required. Registration through the American Registry for Radiological Technologists is required. Thorough knowledge of all imaging procedures to demonstrate techniques and evaluate performance of other technologists including a basic understanding of the operation of computer consoles. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Fundamentals of CT based imaging and image registration and fusion for MR and PET images. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress and to instruct students and employees. Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data and organizes work. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate child adolescent adult and geriatric patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital environment or experience with a variety of patient treatment plans and policies and procedures specific to the department is required. A Bachelor�s Degree in a science related field can be substituted for experience. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Working conditions are generally good with little discomfort due to noise heath dust etc. Considerable walking may be required to father and distribute material around the hospital. INDEPENDENT ACTION: The imagining specialist will independently register and fuse image sets and perform contouring.
