Responsibilities

The Space Systems EO Electronics Department is currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Section Manager for the SS FPGA section in El Segundo, CA.

This Front-Line Leader (FLL) position is responsible for leading a highly motivated group of 10-15 FPGA design and verification engineers working on a variety of development and sustainment tasks and products. The FLL is responsible for all managerial aspects of the section including: providing adequate staffing/skill-sets for programs and proposals, staff performance and career development & training, support to tool/process development & deployment, administration of performance appraisals, merit increases and providing open and honest feedback to section personnel.

The FLL shall be a highly motivated "self-starter" able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and maintain positive relationships & satisfaction with Programs leadership (Engineering and Program Management). The FLL will be responsible and accountable for the work products produced within the section and ensure his team demonstrates the same accountability. Responsibility for the Quality, Timeliness, Completeness and Efficiency (QTCE) of these work products and monitoring/improving QTCE through metrics and process improvements is also required. As such, the FLL will be directly engaged on Programs at various levels according to the participation level and experience of his/her direct reports.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years' professional experience

  • Electrical Engineer with 8 plus year of experience with an emphasis on digital design, including FPGA development and circuit design

  • Experience with industry standard CAE (computer-aided-engineering) tools for electrical engineering as well as EE lab equipment

  • Experience/participation in FPGA proposal development (Cost and Technical)

  • Excellent Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting

  • US Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance within one year of start date

Desired Skills:

  • Experience designing embedded processors and FPGAs

  • Familiar with VHDL Familiar with Factory Test Equipment development and/or experience in ASIC development for space programs

  • Familiarity with Xilinx and Altera development tools

  • Familiarity with Mentor Graphics board design tools

  • Experience with JTAG boundary-scan testing

  • Experience with high speed interfaces (ex. Ethernet, PCIexpress) bus architecture

  • Software skills with C, C++, Visual basic, and/or assembly languages

  • 5+ years of experience in Task Management or other Lead role on Large Development jobs

  • Experience as an IPT or CPT Lead

  • EVMS Certified and professional exposure to EVMS or similar budget tracking system

  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

  • Possess an active SSBI/TS clearance

  • Patents and publications are also a plus

Required Education (including Major): BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or very close equivalent discipline and at least eight to ten years of relevant experience in electronics design (power preferred), including at least five years of design for military applications.

Desired Education: Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or close equivalent discipline is a plus.

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization. 159102
