BAE Systems is seeking experienced and energetic engineering professionals to augment and help lead our established and rapidly expanding engineering team focused on cutting edge Laser Communications Systems. We are looking for a Product Technical Lead (PTL) who can coordinate and manage the engineering activities and is interested in leadership role in a growing market. The successful candidate will serve as the Engineer Manager responsible for a line of free space optical communication products. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the Engineering focal point for the project for integrated plans, issues reporting, risk management, etc.

  • Prime customer POC for all technical issues REQUIRES strong communication ability both written and verbal

  • Coordinate technical input for proposals and participate in subsequent contract negotiations

  • Interface with project management, engineering cost account managers, design teams and functional engineering organizations to obtain agreement on allocated requirements, to resolve/clarify/revise system level requirements issues and ambiguities in configuration item design during the program development phase.

  • Review all technical changes to requirements from the program office. Coordinate the analysis of the impact of technical changes to schedule/budget and ensure implementation and consistent design integrity.

  • Interface with functional engineering organizations to ensure programs are adequately staffed and executed.

  • Manage risks and opportunities in cooperation with the assigned system engineering manager and across other teams

  • Work with customer to maintain notional schedule of program activities

  • Mentor and guide engineers involved in program activities

The ideal candidate will be a good decision maker that has experience in military electronics, managing programs and leading/coordinating the engineering activities of others. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with customers are also required. A successful candidate exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Responsible for leading a small/medium sized team of multidisciplinary engineers in the technical development and rapid prototyping of complex hardware systems. Role includes interfacing with program management to plan and status the execution of development efforts, coordinating with Operations or external companies to procure equipment, and leading the team to assemble, test, and deploy systems. Must demonstrate strong technical aptitude and leadership skills. Must be able to lead small to mid-sized multidisciplinary hardware engineering teams through one or more phases of the hardware product lifecycle, including proposals, design, development, integration, test, and transition to production. Must have excellent leadership skills, communication skills and be able to work cross-functionally within the hardware organization and with other engineering disciplines/functions. Responsibilities may include: FUNCTIONS / DUTIES / SUPERVISION: * Serve as a first line discipline supervisor for a group of FPGA, Power & Analog engineers in support of the C4ISRS business area, in particular the Manassas, VA Space Product area, developing their skills and promoting career growth. * Serve as FPGA, Power & Analog Engineering first line support to the ISR Space product area. * An individual at this level should be demonstrating the leadership ability (Engineering Planning & Project Launch, Driving Technical Performance, and Risk & Opportunity Management) to understand and oversee the relevant product technologies of the business area programs. * Understands the Hardware Engineering Process and acts as the HW process application expert relevant to their specialty providing the appropriate instantiation of process for the programs under your purview. * Perform as Independent Assessor during IDR's, Peer Reviews and Failure Review Board meetings. * Perform project development work on contracted programs, as required. * Participates in the hiring process and is responsible for developing, mentoring, counseling and evaluation performance of subordinates. * Will be involved in program proposal development relevant to the product roadmaps. * Work and partner with the Product Realization Group Lead on business strategies as well as program execution strategies. * Work towards greater synergy among the full Space team (e.g. Manassas, Merrimack) * Performs other duties and responsibilities as required. SUPERVISION: * May suggest expense items for department budget. * May provide input to proposal cost estimates. * Must track and meet staffing needs and utilization targets for your FPGA, Power & Analog team. * Responsible for personnel management (PDR Assessments, Promotion Planning, HR issues, etc.). * Responsible for Career Development Plans of your employees, and providing the tools required for them to perform their tasks. * Responsibilities for the work product of those under your purview, assuring they are applying sound HW/FW/Power & Analog processes.
