The Manager Advanced Practice

Providers will be an integral leader in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at

Hasbro Childrens Hospital reporting to the Division Director of Pediatric

Hematology/Oncology. Time will be allocated for administrative responsibilities

including scheduling mentorship and program development for the existing Advanced

Practice Providers in the Hematology/Oncology and the Hemostasis and Thrombosis

Center working closely with the clinical and Practice Managers. Time will be

focused on the of children receiving hematology and oncology care including

evaluation and management delivery of chemotherapy oncology procedures and management

of infusions.


On-boards new hires mentors

appraises and when necessary disciplines up to and including termination.

Oversees scheduling of

advanced practice providers to ensure proper patient care coverage

Participates in program

development under the direction of the Division Director

Demonstrates a fundamental

grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a

defined content area.

Manages a caseload of

patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and

coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.

Provides leadership in the

development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies

procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.

Oversees care coordination in

acute home care and ambulatory care settings as feasible.

Assists the healthcare team

to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary

support education and encouragement.

Demonstrates advanced

physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.

Provides direct care to

patients in acute care ambulatory care and home care settings.

Performs advanced practice

skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Provides expert consultation

for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Participates in the education

clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.

Facilitates patient/family

education in area of expertise.

Annually completes mandatory

safety infection control BLS and ACLS/PALS.

Masters of Science Degree

Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.

Baccalaureate in Nursing.

Certified in Basic Cardiac

Life Support (BLS).

Demonstrates knowledge and

skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging

processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the

care process.


One to two years experience

as a pediatric hematology-oncology Nurse Practitioner is preferred. Prior

supervisory or management experience desirable.


General hospital environment

with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.


Responds to individual

patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through

education certification and work experience.



Up to 8 Advanced Practice Providers.

Provides supervision to non-clinical staff. Manages the operation of the reception desk including co-pay collection patient flow appointment access and insurance coding. Serves as management liaison to payers. Maintains information on authorization requests approvals and denials. Maintains patient flow statistics and monitors parameters to provide feedback. Makes recommendations for modifications of schedules op operations to optimize effectiveness and efficiency of the practice. Ensures a high level of customer service is maintained at all times. Responsibilities: Provides administrative oversight in support of the physicians practice in collaboration with the Department of Pediatric Manager. Ensures effectiveness and efficiency of coding activities daily fee and co-pay collections schedule utilization patient waiting times. Develops coordinates and maintains effective provider and staff schedules. Ensures patient schedules are supported by sufficient staff to ensure minimal patient wait time upon arrival. Supervises non-professional staff engaged in activities related to secretarial/clerical support and medical assistants. Supervises professional staff for non-clinical issues. Responsible for the recruitment and selection of non-professional staff with input from human resources and division director. Ensures staff are properly oriented to practice responsibilities; communicates new and/or changed policies and procedures. Ensures adherence to the same. Assigns work schedules and provides for appropriate coverage in the event of planned and unplanned absences. Responsible for the evaluation of staff including corrective action up to and including termination with the input from human resources the division director and pediatric business manager. Provides for continuing development of staff as appropriate. Develops and modifies policies and procedures with the participation of the physician/practice director. Develops budgets including recommendation for additional staff and equipment to meet effectiveness of practice operations; recommends changes to physician director for approval; implements approved changes as appropriate. Ensures the appropriateness and timeliness of all staff activities including coding for services to ensure optimal reimbursement and to minimize denials patient referrals insurance documentation and patient scheduling. Acts as resource to others to resolve problems including complex coding issues schedule conflicts questions regarding insurance coverage and the like. Develops and maintains tracking mechanisms (manual and computerized) to document requests approvals and denials for billing. Monitors insurance documents to identify need for further information on vague complex or incomplete forms. Researches and resolves problems resubmits requests for reimbursement as appropriate. Provides for the maintenance and repairs of department equipment requests service from outside vendors as appropriate and within level of authority. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment reorders as appropriate to meet anticipated needs. Investigates reasons for delays informs others of causes. Distributes inventories as appropriate ensures proper storage of same. Reconciles materials received against orders and invoice. Ensures all activities meet or exceed customer expectations. Develops maintains and enhances relationships with others within and outside the practice including practice staff patients and families vendors and others within Lifespan. Advises physician director of actual or potential problems related to regulatory compliance. Implements programs to ensure compliance. Responsible for monitoring and resolving variances in budgets and insurance payments. Prepares check requests and purchase orders for supplies subscriptions memberships maintenance including renewals. As necessary may perform duties of clerical support staff. Participate in or leads various teams related to quality improvement as necessary.
