Expired Job

Gatehouse Media Fayetteville , NC 28301

Posted 3 months ago

The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer, an award-winning midsize daily newspaper in southeastern North Carolina, is looking for an experienced, energetic metro editor to help lead our news coverage.
The job entails coaching reporters and working with them to develop A1 enterprise stories, watchdog pieces and A1 Sunday packages in addition to daily content.
We are looking for someone who can collaborate and lead a team of reporters to break important stories, juggle multiple assignments and produce journalism with impact.
This means going beyond coverage of government meetings and events to dig out the most important stories that people care about -- the stories that affect people's lives in our community.
It's important for this editor to be eager to engage with readers in person and on social media, and fully understand the value of digital storytelling as we continue to innovate and grow new audiences.
Our newsroom values innovation and creativity.
We are heavily focused on digital, to include a digital team that collaborates with reporters to produce video, podcasts, live broadcasts, interactive graphics and anything else that helps us maximize the reach of our journalism.
The metro editor works with the entire staff to help direct news coverage but has some direct reports.
This position requires working some nights.
We prefer someone with newsroom management experience, but it is not obligatory.
We do require, though, that you are an experienced journalist with proven abilities to be successful.
This includes demonstrating your abilities to produce or oversee strong enterprise, investigative and data-driven stories, and journalism that spurs conversation and debate about important issues.
Fayetteville is a diverse city of more than 200,000 people (500,000 including bedroom communities) with a thriving downtown that will soon have a minor league baseball stadium.
We are home to Fort Bragg, the largest Army installation in the world with about 55,000 service members, which means your neighbors will be from all over the world.
This is a great news town that often finds itself thrust into the national spotlight because of the importance of Fort Bragg to global security.
Benefits: Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life, a matching 401(k) program and a generous time off program.
