Wieland is hiring a Metals Research Lab Technician. The Metals Research Lab Technician will be responsible for utilizing laboratory skills in support of research project activities. This includes assembly, maintaining and operation of equipment to complete experiments designed by a scientist and maintaining laboratory supplies. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Responsibilities

Metals Research Lab Technician Responsibilities:

  • Position assists in alloy and product development by conducting metallurgical experiments under the supervision of professional technical staff.

  • Successful candidate is responsible for accuracy of data, routine data analysis and communication of data summaries to technical supervision.

  • Applies judgement and observation in conducting experiments and testing.

  • Conducts lab-scale casting, rolling, and heat treating of metal shapes.

  • Conducts testing of alloys for mechanical, physical and other properties.

  • Conducts bench-scale electroplating and tests to evaluate surface characteristics and properties.

  • Assembling, operating and maintaining lab equipment.

Metals Research Lab Technician Qualifications:

  • Associate of Science degree in Engineering or related degrees with one year of laboratory or related experience OR five years related experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel desired. Familiarity with computer programming a plus.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Organizes and prioritizes workload to meet changing objectives.

  • Aptitude for detail and the ability to work independently.

  • Must be a team player, willing to help others when needed.
