Position Title: Metallurgical Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager
Primary Functions and Exclusions:
Working within the Quality Assurance Department technicians evaluate the work of manufacturing by determining the quality of product through metallurgical testing. Present capabilities are cutting, heat treat of specimens, machining, tensile test, Rockwell hardness, electrical conductivity and preparation of metallographic specimens.
Laboratory technicians may also assist in production heat treat final inspection (hardness and electrical conductivity inspection).
Laboratory technicians have no responsibilities with regard to manufacturing. Strong morals and resistance to external pressures that could negatively impact the reputation of the employee and / or the company is a must; compliance to the Quality Management System is a must.
Preparation of mechanical test specimens (cutting, turning, milling);
Testing of mechanical test specimens (tensile, hardness)
Electrical conductivity inspection;
Preparation of metallographic specimens (microstructures, macrostructures);
Maintain documented inventory of laboratory consumables.
50% of the time the working environment is controlled (temperature and humidity); cutting, heat treating and machining are ambient conditions;
May be required to work overtime
Lifting- able to lift up to 30 lbs.
High school diploma
Proficient spoken and written English
Proficient with dimensional inspection tools
