Looking for a motivated individual with general labor, production, mechanical, and/or laboratory experience to work as a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician 1. This is an entry-level junior production position requiring no prior metallurgy experience. What is required is the willingness to learn, work hard, and have a quality mindset. All training will be provided by a mentor/trainer and based on established standard operating procedures and ISO company practices. Greater responsibilities and career progression is up to the individual as competency and proficiency on tasks are evaluated and measured by both the supervisor and individual. Some basic responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Performs sample characterization and testing safely following basic procedures
Collects and prepares samples
Records sample and testing information for engineers and project managers
Performs basic equipment and instrumentation maintenance
Promotes a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company's operational activities

Key Job responsibilities for a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician 1:
Participates in daily sample preparation and related workflows
Supports engineering/metallurgical staff by performing mineral processing unit operations (screening, crushing, gravity concentration, leaching, filtration, flotations, etc.) as determined by the project
Maintains lab equipment and supplies
Basic calculations, reagent preparation with bench and pilot testing and/or assisting
Work safely and maintain a clean work area in accordance with standard lab practice and procedures
Other job duties as assigned
Other abilities required:
While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to stand, walk, lift, climb stairs, talk, listen, and use hands.
The position will be regularly required to work in laboratory testing environment, at a factory testing environment, or in a customer environment at times and is required to follow all safety requirements including PPE and safety policies. Work may also be completed in changing weather conditions.
Must be able to be tested and cleared to wear a half-mask face respirator.
Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds continuously.
Customer site access requirements such as passing medical / physical evaluations for high-altitude work may apply
Work Environment:
Lab: 90% to 95%
MTRC Office: 5% to 10%
Off Site: < 10%
When performing testing, the work environment requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: hearing protection, steel toe footwear, gloves, safety helmet, safety glasses, and respirator
Will take part in yearly safety trainings including, but limited to, MSHA certification, hazardous communication and response, first aid, etc.
When working at customer sites, the position is expected to work in multi-cultural work environments, where colleagues come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds with different educational backgrounds and language skills.
Typically, this position is a flexible 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 5 am to 5 pm shift. However, there is occasionally a need to work over-time and be available for extended, after-hours, or weekend shifts as required.
What you bring
High school diploma or GED
Must be self-motivated with a can-do attitude
Basic math and familiarity with MS Office products required
Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
Good verbal and written communication skills required
Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
Strong interest in training and learning new laboratory methods
Able to occasionally work swing or night shifts (<10% of yearly total hours)
Basic knowledge of safety procedures including personal protection equipment (PPE) and standard lab safety procedures
Lab work related to the minerals industry is a bonus
Chemistry experience/background a plus, but not required
