Position Summary

As our Metallurgical Engineer, you will be the owner of metallurgical processes to produce high purity iron from iron ore in a novel, high-temperature ironmaking process.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work from first principles to troubleshoot design and implementation challenges on a first-of-a-kind ironmaking furnace

  • Lead the development of metallography procedures, testing, and data analysis

  • Select refractory lining materials to withstand furnace operating conditions

  • Develop bench scale and full-scale test plans to validate models & performance requirements, and assure quality of iron products

  • Control the purity of iron products using slag forming processes

  • Work closely with the engineering team on furnace design, installation, and beyond.

  • Develop and maintain internal practices and documentation on metallurgical processes

Desired Qualifications

  • Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering degree and 2+ years experience in industrial metallurgical applications

  • Hands-on experience with metallographic techniques and analysis

  • Experience designing and building prototypes

  • Experience scaling from the lab to industrial settings

  • Experience with slag forming processes

  • Experience working with molten metals and/or high temperature furnaces

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills, ability to think about problems from a first-principles perspective

  • Experience working in team-oriented and fast-paced startup-like environments
