The Measurement Science Group at RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) in East Hartford, CT has an open position for a research technician to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories. The position is part of a team integral to many of the research projects at RTRC and supports products from the various business units of RTX.
You will be part of a team responsible for evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of materials and components throughout the product lifecycle. The work involves significant hands-on activity supporting the development of advanced materials and technologies through preparation of samples for characterization and testing.
What You Will Do:
Metallographic preparation
Precision specimen sectioning
Sample mounting and polishing techniques
Chemical handling and etching
Optical microscopy methods
Basic computer documentation/reporting
The preferred candidate will be capable of excelling as an individual contributor as well as in a team, with the desire to learn new skills and strong attention to detail. Experience in a hands-on laboratory or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Minimum 5 years direct hands-on experience with metallography and specimen preparation including aerospace alloys/materials
Familiarity with common metallographic techniques and consumables
Familiarity with proper chemical handling and etching procedures
Strong attention to detail and an ability to learn quickly and strive for continuous improvement
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently with limited direction
AA/AS degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training (two years duration), minimum experience of 6 years in a related field, e.g. materials characterization, manufacturing, quality/inspection, or precision machining
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements
Qualifications we Prefer:
Experience with optical microscopy, quality inspection, and data documentation for incorporation into reports
Self-starter with willingness to support strategic priorities and take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives.

The salary range for this role is 59,000 USD - 125,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
