Merchandising Category Specialist - Medina, MN

The Merchandising Category Specialist, in partnership with the Category Manager, is responsible for delivering the financial performance of their specific departments and product categories. The Merchandising Category Specialist role is designed to establish an understanding of the Category Management concepts and standardized processes to better prepare the associate for a more advanced future role in Category Management.

DUTIES

• Assist with all aspects of product life cycle management in selected product categories from item set up to clearance.

• Develop merchandising concepts, product and promotional plans that strategically drive category growth while continually evaluating product mix to ensure customer satisfaction, increase market penetration and competitive advantage.

• Progressive understanding of category management concepts, processes, and procedures through mentoring with Merchandising leadership.

• Determine standard and promotional product pricing through competitive analysis, industry research, store visits and product pricing strategies to support management of major product categories.

• Assist in negotiations with vendors to ensure Rockler secures the lowest price and most favorable payment terms, rebates, and co-op allowances.

• Work collaboratively with buyers, retail merchandisers, marketing, and creative teams to ensure product is accurately represented in all channels.

• Develop into an industry and customer expert to ensure we stay ahead of our competition and present our customers with the best assortment of products in the marketplace.

• Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

• Proficient with MS Office

• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiating and vendor management skills

• Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills

• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities

• Woodworking experience/background or interest preferred
