Description
Shall be responsible for supervising and coordinating travel for the safe transportation of mentally ill inmates in mental health crisis and/or by court order to an out of town facility to receive the necessary mental health services that are not available within the city/county.
Examples of Duties
Follows Departmental security policies and procedures.
Participate in monthly Border Region Mental Health Coalition Meetings, in person or zoom meetings.
Communicate with other Webb County departments (County Attorney, County Clerk's office, County Court at law Judges Office) for court orders.
Communicate with Non-Profit Organization's Staff for consumer referrals and/or court orders for homeless citizens with mental issues.
Communicate with correctional facilities, jails, or other law enforcement agencies where offenders are being transferred to and give instructions for their departure and approximate time of arrival.
Ensure all inmates are searched prior to leaving the jail facility.
Ensure all inmates are restrained according to jail policy and procedures.
Monitor and ensures transport vehicles are serviced and in check for duty.
Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performances.
May be required to work during times other than normal working hours, when needed.
Reviews, handles, and distributes related travel and court documents to mental health officers.
Must have good interpersonal skills in dealing and communication with co-workers, county employees, department heads, elect/appointed officials, outside organizations and the general public
Must be able to interpret and apply rules, regulation, and policy as they pertain to the standard operating procedures (SOP) manual and the jail operating procedures (JOP) manual.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the Jail Commander or his designee.
Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferred.
One year of work related experience in law enforcement or correctional field or prior supervisor experience related to mental health transport services, preferred.
Supplemental Information
Ability to understand and process oral and written instructions effectively and efficiently.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under deadlines pressure.
Knowledge of standard office equipment including personal computer and software programs.
Knowledge in understanding the basics of the Criminal Judicial System.
Knowledge of the rules and requirements of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.
