About this role
Our Mental Health Technician (MHT) Trainee provides direct care to a specific Person Served (P/S) population under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing staff and their designee's. Both psychiatric and medical nursing assistance services are provided as part of the overall plan of care and within the nursing standards and policies and procedures of The Company Recovery Solutions/SFSH. Our MHT Trainee position serves as an extended orientation time for qualified staff with a limited knowledge base to gain the understanding and experience necessary to be successful in our MHT role. Our MHT Trainee role is designed to have an interested candidate receive education about the major mental illnesses, supervision, communication, treatment and side effects; and provide care under the supervision of the Lead MHTs/and RN. At the end of this 3-month period of time, our MHT Trainee will fill one of our MHT positions.

What you will do
Assists licensed nursing personnel in providing direct services to assigned population including health data collection. Observations of behaviors and activities of daily living. Assistance with activities of daily living including prompting, education and support. Specific assignments such as face checks, hall monitoring, one to one's, overall supervision of persons served, groups and other direct care duties as assigned. Knowledgeable about psychotropic meds. Demonstrates basic knowledge regarding therapeutic communication and role recovery psychiatric rehabilitation skills. Understands the organization's recovery based mission, vision and values and how these guide practice. Continues professional development through in-service education, workshops, conferences and self-study necessary to maintain current knowledge applicable to the position. Compliance in all mandatory Human Resources requirements. Is sensitive to cultural diversity issues, treats patient as an individual, and considers the culture of the patient when providing care and treatment. Is knowledgeable about care and treatment needs of patients of different ages. Provides individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each patient. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis. Perform other duties as assigned.
