SUMMARY#OF RESPONSIBILITY - Job Summary (general statement of purpose or objective of position) The primary function of the#MHT is to assist the patient and family with basic patient care, monitoring, hygiene, and to help ensure care is complete. The#MHT works as an essential part of the patient care team. As the member who spends most of their time in the presence of the patient, compassion, caring, and excellent human interaction skills are necessary along with excellent communication skills both to and from the patient and family, and to and from the rest of the healthcare team. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Knowledge, skills, abilities, license, registration, certification, education, and experience 12 college level credit hours that include a passing grade in English Composition#with a C or higher and an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater.#(transcripts will be verified upon application) Healthcare experience preferred but not required Service industry experience preferred but not required Willingness to work flexible hours Good organization skills Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to learn and apply new healthcare related skills Ability to communicate effectively and do so consistently Ability to collaborate with the health care team effectively and do so consistently Ability to engage people at the appropriate level for their wellness and cognition Ability to problem solve Ability to be proactive in anticipating the customer#s needs Will provide education that includes: CPR, Skills training, Crucial Conversations, and Hospitality in Healthcare

Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values, the mental health technician participates on the patient care team by providing quality direct patient care which includes but is not limited to maintenance of therapeutic milieu, provision of a safe, supportive environment and monitoring and assisting patients with activities of daily living under the direction of the RN. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Assists patients in the development of individuality and appropriate methods of self-expression through promoting an environment in which the patient can problem-solve and test out new behaviors. Assists the patients in acknowledging and accepting responsibility for psychological and behavioral patterns through providing feedback and positive reinforcement, consistently applying program rights and regulations, behavior modification program and communicating in an appropriate manner with the patient. Participates in admission procedures; orients patient to unit and program. Escorts patients to ancillary departments for procedures. Provides appropriate emergency care and maintains a safe environment. Maintains a secure environment and acts as a resource for emergency situations. Performs basic nursing tasks (i.e. but not limited to: vital signs, blood pressure, specimen collection, accu checks, weighing and assisting with activities of daily living). Assist the nurse in carrying out orders that are within the scope of practice. Provides care and supervision of patients needing to be in the seclusion room (where appropriate). Provides care and supervision to patients needing physical restraint (where appropriate). Facilitates various supportive and educational groups and activities under the direction and supervision of professional staff. Communicates effectively utilizing both verbal and written methods. Maintains communications network and harmonious working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team and other departments, through participating in staff meetings, quality assurance activities and program development and implementation. Maintains awareness and functions in accordance with CHI St. Vincent and department specific procedures. Documents objective observations of patient location and behavior. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth. Carries out assigned tasks, within the scope of training and abilities as directed by the clinical leader/manager. Maintains confidentiality and dignity of patients. Answers phone and greets customers and patients courteously, takes messages and relays information in a timely manner. Models appropriate life skill behaviors, i.e., hygiene, grooming, dress, manners and language. Utilizes Crisis Prevention and Intervention techniques to avoid and/or reduce the use of restraints and/or seclusion. Utilizes positive interpersonal skills, conflict management, problem solving and critical thinking to promote development of the health care team. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department. Demonstrates work practices consistent with CHI St. Vincent and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies. Authorized to make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure. Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma, GED, Metropolitan Test, or Equivalent. Basic Medical Terminology. Experience: At least 1 years of previous psychiatric experience preferred. Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, and hearing. The individual in this position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to 50 lbs. and push/pull 100-150 lbs. Individuals in this position could possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens and body fluids, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and radiological hazards. Required to participate in physical de-escalation with patients as needed. Skills: Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. Must possess demonstrated communication skills, excellent customer service skills and ability to deal effectively with multi-disciplinary team members/patients/significant others and physicians. Must complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of hire. Ability to critically think and problem solve.
