The Mental Health Specialist will provide routine direct services using motivational interviewing skills, supervision and complete associated documentation for the consumer and program.


  • Provide direct services to consumers

  • Ensure documentation is submitted in accordance with Center standards and meets all designated requirements

  • Provide administrative back up functions as needed

  • Individual treatment plans will be implemented while maintaining a safe, sanitary and therapeutic environment at all times

  • Comply with and participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement processes, and with required contractual and Center policies and procedures

  • May be required to transport a patient in a company vehicle

  • Other duties as assigned


  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One (1) to two (2) years full-time related experience working in mental health or developmental disabilities with the population served

  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications and system databases, fax machines, and motor vehicle

  • Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies.

  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Companys auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business.

  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.

  • Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in various care.

  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • The employee must be able to occasionally transfer a consumer.


  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Current Certified Notary Public

Compensation Package

Salary Range: Min $12.50 - Max $14.05 Per Hour

Provide direct supervision, safety and crisis management for patient/resident population. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides direct supervision of patients/residents. 2. Maintain safety within the milieu by constantly monitoring patients/residents for potentially unsafe behaviors. 3. Prevent and manage crisis situations. 4. Role model appropriate behaviors, attitudes, social skills and self-care. 5. Completes all documentation as required. 6. Adheres to facility policies and procedures. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS: SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of patient/resident information. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job. Competent to provide direct supervision and implementation of the daily, structured routine. Provides behavioral management using hospital approved methods. Supervises patients at all times to maintain safety. EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED; Attendance in an accredited college and/or university LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Texas driver's license with good driving record, CPR/CPI certification. EXPERIENCE: One year of experience as a Mental Health Worker preferred with adolescents (ages 12-18) or child or adult or enrollment in or a graduate of a professional program (LVN, RN, licensed therapist). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. * 80%-90% of the time, the staff is standing, walking, kneeling or reaching while working with the patient/residents. * Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patient/residents. * Ability to perform CPR. * Ability to work rotating shifts. * Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions. * Vision and hearing sufficient to perform essential functions. * Ability to drive a vehicle. * Ability to speak clearly and write legibly.
